Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Position Summary: The Child Life Assistant provides care and support to children in the healthcare setting through promoting a playful environment in which children are able to engage in age appropriate play opportunities. Qualifications: EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Experience in working with children and/or adolescents; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years post high school education required. preferreder two years post-high school education in human services field. Experience working with children with developmental and behavioral challenges strongly preferred. Past experience in a licensed childcare center strongly preferred.Strong verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively with children and families. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Respectful and possess cultural awareness and sensitivityCompassionate and understandingAble to build esteem while ensuring a safe and secure environment Essential Functions:

+ Provides developmentally appropriate play opportunities for pediatric patients and their siblings.

+ Participates in daily program of therapeutic play, recreation, stimulation, emotional support to groups of patients/ siblings and/or individuals according to their needs, capabilities and interests.

+ Maintains and monitors the safety of children while providing a child friendly environment.

+ Provides group and individual activities that promote play.

+ Promotes children’s normal growth and development.

+ Shares behavioral observations with heath care team.

+ Participates in therapeutic programs designed to meet the physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of pediatric patients. Participates in child life program special events and celebrations with community organizations.

+ Assists in the supervision of volunteers in the play programs

+ Assists in the maintenance of toys, equipment and storage facilities and evaluation, and purchase of supplies and equipment.

+ Assures materials are clean and in good repair.

+ Follows policy regarding toy cleaning and environment of care.

+ Participates in team meetings and orientation to the department infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures and routines.

+ Completes daily statistical forms.

+ Other duties as assigned.
