The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for an M.Eng. Academic Advisor position. The M.Eng. Academic Advisor serves as the primary recruiter and advisor for the Online M.Eng. degree program and advisor for the residential (M.Eng.) program. The Advisor is expected to recruit students, assist in the advisement of students to make sure academic progress is met and career goals are identified.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Advising:

• Initiate and complete orientation and advising for all M. Eng. Students regarding program. Courses requirements. And academic deadlines.

• Confirm student program of study and academic completion milestones to assure progression toward degree.

• Advising both in person and through online office hours for all online M.Eng. students.

• Recommend courses and programs to meet student academic and professional goals.

• Identify and secure faculty mentors for students based on field of interest and professional goals.

Assist with M.Eng. orientation for both online and on campus programs each semester.

Student Recruiting Activities:

• Recruit students for the M.Eng. program. Includes preparing and implementing marketing plans and materials in conjunction with the college or engineering advertising, connecting with companies and prospective students, exhibiting at local and national conferences, and answering inquiries from prospective students.

• Engagement and coordination with the college and university conducting targeted research, (including data on peer institutions) and conference participation.

• Recruit students for M.Eng. Program through outreach to select corporate partners.

• Assist with recruitment of UIUC ECE undergraduates for the M. Eng, program.

ECE M.Eng. Online Administration:

• In close coordination and cooperation with other ECE Advising staff, assist in the management of the M. Eng. Program (both online and residential.)

• Facilitate course offerings (in person and online) which includes working closely with faculty to establish tools for active learning, office hours, and classroom management.

• Work with the College graduate online programs to utilize their resources for online learning

• Coordinate training materials and opportunities for faculty, TAs, and students involved in M.Eng.

• Work with department staff regarding classroom technology maintenance and support.

• Maintain records, gather data and prepare reports for the department head and other faculty and staff to track M.Eng. program and student growth.

• Participate in ECE alumni events with a focus on graduate and professional education outreach.

• Coordinate supervision of graduate teaching assistants for M.Eng. Program with the Assistant Director Academic Programs.

• Coordinate the degree certification process to confirm students meet degree requirements prior to degree conferral.

Other Duties in the Department:

• Assist with other duties as assigned, including the development of new initiatives for the programs and the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree.

• Three years of program administrative and/or management experience in a public, private, or university setting.

• Customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Adult Education, or related field.

• Three years' experience in a field related to online and/or blended teaching.

• Experience in marketing, sales, or similar activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience working with faculty and students in an academic setting. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple duties simultaneously.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. The minimum salary for this position is $48,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Work authorization is not available for this position.
