Job Summary 

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this newly created leadership position will be responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives that align with the strategic goals and associated milestones of Northwestern’s Office of Human Resources (OHR). The Director will provide proactive and strategic guidance in areas that affect the staff community and will implement an integrated approach to DEIB that aligns with the mission of Northwestern University. 

 

In partnership with the Chief of Staff and the senior HR leadership team (in which they will be a member), the Director is a key leader who will drive DEIB planning and activities for staff members, develop DEIB programs, and embed DEIB principals and best practices throughout the work of OHR. The Director will serve as a resource within OHR to instill and permeate diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into all programs, initiatives, policies, and processes. This role will lead to internal assessments of current policies and practices, identifying perceived or actual barriers to opportunity. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Drives OHR strategy for fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace at Northwestern.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to provide expertise on diversity outreach to increase the candidate pool of diverse staff and enhance employer branding efforts; build relationships with external organizations.
  • Partners with Talent Development and Well-being to develop and deliver workshops and learning programs that support University DEIB efforts, including manager training and performance management. 
  • Partners with Compensation and Benefits to ensure all practices and policies have been created with DEIB principles in mind. 
  • Collaborates with the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Compliance, IDEA leaders, and other colleagues to integrate DEIB staff initiatives across the University community; engage with affinity groups.
