Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM – 4:30:00 PM)

Summary:

The Manager, Pharmacy Techs, under the general direction of the Associate Director of Inpatient Operations, manages the daily operational functions of the pharmacy technicians I, II, and III. The Manager, Pharmacy Techs provides orientation and training opportunities for all new technicians for the inpatient central production areas, the decentralized pharmacy satellites, and pharmacy storeroom. The Manager, Pharmacy Techs routinely evaluates and critiques technical skill levels and maintains positive lines of communication between the technical staff and pharmacy management throughout the Department. The Manager, Pharmacy Techs is responsible for the generation, distribution, retention and review of all information related to technician scheduling, orientation, training, competency as required to be reported daily, monthly, or annually as necessary. Required Job Qualifications:

- Four years of experience as a certified pharmacy technician.

- Valid State of Illinois pharmacy technician license.

- High School diploma or GED.

- Excellent data entry skills.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Must be flexible with work schedule.

- Must possess good problem solving skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems.

- Dependable attendance and job performance.

- Use of Telephone, computer systems, laminar airflow hoods, packaging and compounding equipment, copiers, fax machines and other office equipment as necessary.

Physical Demands:

- May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents and bloodbourne pathogens.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for recruiting all technicians for any of the inpatient pharmacy areas requiring the support of technicians.

2. Responsible for hiring and administering progressive disciplines as necessary for all inpatient pharmacy technicians.

3. Orients and provides training opportunities for new technicians in the various work sites maintained by the pharmacy department in order to ensure uniform performance.

4. Creates reports and documents orientation, training, inspection and competency activities relevant to the pharmacy technician group.

5. Coordinates the distribution of reports and information regarding technicians to the various pharmacy unit managers, associate directors and director as needed.

6. Responsible for the filing and storage of reports.

7. Works as a liaison to other hospitals for the return and or repayment of borrowed and loaned items from the storeroom.

8. Prepares the pharmacy technician schedule for all of the work units within the Department of Pharmacy in coordination with the pharmacy unit managers and the Associate Director of Inpatient Operations.

9. Provides technical support to all personnel in the pharmacy department.

10. Performs an annual performance evaluation of all technicians within the Department of Pharmacy.

11. Responsible for the daily scheduling and rearrangement of technical personnel and in coordination with other managers to ensure timely completion of work and flexibility to meet fluctuating demands.

12. Provides direct communication of technician perceptions and expectations to the Pharmacy Unit Managers, Associate Director and Director.

13. Capable of performing all routine responsibilities expected of pharmacy technicians.

14. Ensures work environment is kept clean and organized based on training expectations presented to technicians.

15. Establishes criteria for technicians to follow regarding expired medication checking and unit inspections and documentation.

16. Routinely evaluates and critiques technician skill levels and assesses completion of ongoing training in specialty operational areas including extemporaneous compounding.

17. Responds to and resolves technician/pharmacist work related problems in a timely fashion.

18. Prepares and submits reports relative to technicians competencies to managers as requested.

19. Assists in assessing operational changes and workflow upgrades with the Associate Director of Inpatient Operations.

20. Oversees technician/pharmacist staff meetings with other pharmacy managers including agenda preparation, presentations and discussion facilitation.

21. Performs other duties as assigned.
