Position Title: Deputy Director of Civic Engagement

Division: Civic Engagement

Classification: Exempt

Location: Chicago

Salary: $80,000 -$90,000 Annually

Position Summary:

Organize and coordinate the daily operations of the Civic Engagement Division and assist the Deputy Chief of Civic Engagement with various operational needs. Responsible for managing the promotion of all programs offered by the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office (ISTO) and for ensuring that staff within the division is equipped with the knowledge and resources to effectively and efficiently promote ISTO programs. Create and arrange opportunities that will advocate for the programs and services offered by the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office. Other duties assigned to this position include managing staff schedules and timekeeping, developing and implementing outreach strategies to promote the Treasurer’s programs and meet the administration’s priorities and initiatives, traveling to various events throughout the state, and coordinating marketing materials. Attendance and travel are essential functions of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Direct and support fully remote Community Affairs Specialists to ensure the advancement of business and constituent relationships.

+ Interview and train employees, plan, assign, and direct work, evaluate performance, and provide positive feedback and constructive criticism to employees.

+ Create new opportunities to educate constituents on all programs offered by the State Treasurer’s Office (STO).

+ Provide guidance, training, and support to Community Affairs Specialists to facilitate development of new relationships to create more opportunities to promote STO programs.

+ Manage logistics and execution of various special celebrations throughout the year such as the STOs History/Heritage Month events.

+ Provide support to the Scheduling team as needed.

+ Work with the Deputy Chief of Civic Engagement and Human Resources to manage all personnel-related matters regarding staff under the manager’s supervision.

+ Provide support on strategic outreach planning to enhance the effectiveness of the office communications to the public.

+ Conduct research on opportunities for advancement of all programs offered by STO.

+ Help manage the division’s budget.

+ Ensure staff has the materials, official attire, signage, and equipment to effectively perform their duties.

+ Evaluate and monitor Community Affairs Specialist’s schedules, events, and participation in public gatherings to determine effectiveness and value to the Treasurer’s Office.

+ Conduct periodic meetings attended by Community Affairs Specialists.

+ Perform other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably related to the duties enumerated above.

Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field; eight (8) or more years related work experience, five (5) or more years management experience, preferably with union employees; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to carry out the duties of the position.
