The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL (Lake Bluff, IL) location in the Transfusion Medicine Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the Senior Quality Technician , you will be responsible for bioanalytical quality testing within the QIMS and SAP system. You’ll complete assigned daily activities; workload; scheduling; and constraints independently. Maintains product and testing inventory and complies with the quality system. Provides technical expertise to complex projects / product and investigations as required. Strives to become the subject matter expert (SME) within work area.

What You’ll Work On

+ Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the Quality system.

+ Work in a high-paced laboratory environment and has multiple certifications.

+ Experience with the following bioanalytical techniques: HPLC, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, Dot Blot, ELISA, Mass Spectrometry (MS), microtiter plate methods, chemistry tests (pH, appearance, absorbance, chemistry identification, moisture analysis, Infrared Spectroscopy (IR)).

+ CAPA – Investigate standard testing out of tolerance and out of specification results including complaints.

+ Participate in project and process improvement activities. Monitor performance of testing processes, implements process improvements, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement. Support work area processes and product development/improvement projects. Provide quality support to key processes and product development/improvement projects. Take a lead in the lab to ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) are executed and the lab is running efficiently. Participate in lab safety.

+ Communicate and collaborate effectively within team and with internal stakeholders as guided by manager.

+ Maintain; review and update relevant documents and records.

+ Proactively seeks improvement within Quality Technical work area.

+ Maintain and update relevant computer applications.

+ Keep abreast of the standards that regulate our industry.

+ Participate and take all trainings and reviews as required.

+ Conduct business in a manner that will protect human health; safety and the environment by complying with all applicable EHS laws; as well at the Abbott Global and Technical standards.

+ Comply with Abbott Quality System (QS) requirements.

+ Share quality knowledge; liaising with colleagues within team.

+ Train others in multiple key processes within work area.

+ Assists with the collation of information requested during audits.

+ Utilize quality experience to train others.

+ Complete Quality testing as appropriate for products per procedures and review all data to determine conformance with specifications.

+ Ensure storage of samples and documents in the appropriate filling systems.

Required Qualifications

+ High School graduate or equivalent plus a certificate in relevant Science Area.

+ 0-2 years work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Ideally a bachelor’s degree in a science or closely related discipline or equivalent relevant experience to demonstrate equivalence to a degree.

The base pay for this position is $24.75 – $49.55 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
