ABOUT THE ROLE

This position will manage all aspects of Holcim’s sales, use, business licensing, and B&O tax compliance and planning. This will include working closely with the Indirect Tax Director to ensure multiple tax engines and other tax-applicable software applications are working properly; liaising with the shared service center (SSC) personnel on GL account reconciliations and accounting entries; oversight of unclaimed property analysis and reporting; analyzing potential sales and use tax exposures; providing guidance to the various business streams, generally ensuring appropriate indirect tax compliance with applicable laws and regulations; working closely with the income tax group on gross receipt and tax analysis; assisting in the review and analysis of potential mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures; and other special projects as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

+ Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.

+ Strategic planning for sales, use, mining, and B&O tax cost minimization.

+ Facilitate open door policies with internal customers; fostering two-way relationships that promote successful teamwork that produces results.

+ Manage and oversight of sales and use tax GL account reconciliations prepared by the SSC.

+ Oversee and ensure timely and accurate compliance with all sales, use, B&O tax, and licensing regulations while working to minimize tax liability and maximize after-tax profits.

+ Support and oversee unclaimed property compliance prepared by SSC.

+ Establish and maintain appropriate tax controls and policies for sales, use, mining, B&O taxes, and business licensing compliance processes.

+ Supervise Tax Analyst and Senior Tax Analyst’s sales and use tax refund claims. Manage appropriate work papers to track refunds.

+ Manage relationships with external tax auditors and coordinate interactions with outside advisors relating to sales, use, and other related tax issues.

+ Keep abreast of changes in tax statutes and regulations, incorporate relevant changes, and determine the impact on the company’s operations.

+ Perform research, document, and present findings on issues affecting the US sales and use tax positions.

+ Identify and implement process improvements related to tax compliance

+ Work closely with the US Indirect Tax Director and others on sales, use and other tax-related projects.

+ Ensure the tax compliance software (tax engines) are up to date, including updated decision matrices for law changes.

+ Train sales, purchasing, and accounting personnel on sales, use, and other taxes, along with training on relevant systems.

+ Mentor, train, and support tax managers and analysts.

+ Maintain personal and corporate integrity in all actions.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years of equivalent experience.

Additional Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree

Field of Study Preferred: Tax Accounting and/or Tax Law

Required Work Experience: 10+ years of sales, use tax, and business license experience

Required Computer and Software Skills: Advanced Excel skills required; Knowledge of Vertex, One Source, Avalara, or other Tax Engine Software, SAP or equivalent ERP experience is required

Travel Requirements: up to 10%

Additional Requirements:

+ Possess a high level of technical US sales, use and fuel tax knowledge

+ Demonstrate fluency in Vertex O Series, One Source, preferably with SAP interface

+ Able to work as a member of diverse teams including members from different functional areas (including Treasury, Accounting and Finance) and locations

+ A mixture of accounting firm and corporate experience is preferred

+ Must be able to apply tax principles consistent with sound business practices

+ Experience using tax research tools and familiarity with sophisticated tax concepts preferred

+ Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

+ Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment (“PPE”), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
