Job Description

Seeking a highly motivated and experienced research scientist to join our Protein Sciences group in Lake County, Illinois. The candidate will be working in a highly dynamic group to provide upstream fermentation production support for small molecule programs across different Discovery Research therapeutic areas. The candidate should have extensive protein expression experience and be proficient in standard bioprocess and aseptic technique. Additional experience with small-scale protein purification and characterization is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Develop and execute cell culture process in shake flasks and bench-scale bioreactors.

+ Protein expression in E. coli., insect, and mammalian cell culture systems.

+ Characterize expression with SDS-PAGE and Western blot.

+ Interact with cross-functional team members and communicate precise, reliable, and reproducible data in a timely manner.

+ Excellent documentation of experimental results in electronic laboratory notebooks.

+ Summarize experiments, results, and conclusions and present them to the team.

+ Work independently with team spirit. Accountable for individual technical performance and for contributing results to the team.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

+ BS or MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or other relevant biological sciences with typically 5-9 years (BS), or 2-7 years (MS) of experience.

+ Experience in protein expression using E. coli, insect (Sf9), or mammalian system (HEK or CHO cells). Having experience in multiple expression systems is a plus.

+ Good problem-solving skills. Capable of finding the root cause of problems and solving them in innovative ways.

+ Strong communication skills and the ability to build open and collaborative relationships in a multidisciplinary environment are essential.

+ Detailed and timely record keeping to document and communicate work processes

+ An ability to efficiently manage several projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

+ Ability to lift, carry, push or pull weights of 30 lbs/13.6 kgs or more.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.
