Job Description

AbbVie Analytical Research & Development (ARD) is a global analytical sciences organization responsible for all CMC analytical activities related to the development of AbbVie’s pharmaceutical products. Our scope includes AbbVie’s diverse pipeline of innovative small molecule and therapeutic biologic medicines and spans from the selection of Discovery candidate molecules through the transition of analytical methods and testing to commercial labs to support product launch.

Within Small Molecule Chemistry and Manufacturing Control (CMC) Development, Analytical Research & Development focuses on analytical sciences to inform the development of new chemical entities and the associated formulations dosed in a preclinical and clinical setting across a wide range of pipeline programs. This group works closely with Process Chemistry and Drug Product Development. Additionally, this position will work closely with the ARD Screening Lab, which functions as a high-throughput method screening and development group that serves a diverse set of stakeholders and impacts all pipeline programs. An ideal candidate would have hands-on experience developing methods and troubleshooting difficult separations related challenges. In this dynamic and fast-paced environment, your expertise, and insight will ensure the development robust and reliable methods

- Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions. Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.

-Learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for others. -Innovate and implement new experimental protocols. -Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field. -Set and meet experimental timelines. -Effectively organize and present scientific plans and data. -Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents. -Routinely read and apply relevant scientific literature. Impact projects mostly through lab and/or pilot plant based activities where applicable. .-Support high-throughput platform screening capabilities for separation-based assays for small-molecules and biologics (Chiral, Achiral, HILIC, SFC, 2DLC, HIC, IEX, SEC, etc.)

-Perform assay qualification to establish specificity, sensitivity, linear range, precision, robustness, and accuracy of test methods.

-Employ chromatographic modeling software (Fusion, Drylab, Chromsword, etc.) for method development and robustness.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent education, with typically 5 or more years’ experience or Master’s Degree or equivalent education, with typically 2 or more years’ experience.

+ Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.

+ Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.

+ Ability to multitask and work within timelines.

+ Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.

+ Proven, hands-on experience in the development of novel complex analytical methods.
