Job Summary

Responsible for leading the direction of the development, deployment and delivery of both field and support center communications strategies, plans and messaging for executives, Pharmacy & Retail Operations and supporting functions leadership, and key leaders that support the Company’s programs. Ensures the strategy for messaging and timing is in alignment with all communication between Company and Pharmacy and Retail Operations leadership. Provides high levels of accountability and effective stake-holder management by working cross- functionally and collaboratively, communicating and partnering with senior leaders and other key stakeholders. Develops best practices and is responsible for the strategy and implementation of KPIs to enable continuous improvement across the US Retail communications function.

Job Responsibilities

+ Directs the design, development and execution of complex communications strategies, plans and messaging that supports the Company’s programs and leaders in the Support Center, Pharmacy & Retail Operations and supporting functions.

+ Oversees the integration of external and internal/leader communications, internal relationship management of Walgreens executives as well as external relationship management with communications executives and leaders from external partners and alliances.

+ Designs, builds and maintains top tier national and trade media relationships, in addition to the calendar and schedule for deployment of communications to the stores.

+ Leads strategic communications regarding initiatives that drive performance in the company and its critical functions across both field and corporate functions.

+ Identifies target audience and directs communication strategies that will engage and create interest and deliver messages that will both support the business and create goodwill with customers and/or among the company’s employees.

+ Maintains a knowledge of company and external events or issues. Ensures that the company’s communication places the organization in the best possible position with key stakeholders, customers and employees.

+ Collaborates between the Corporate Communications team and Pharmacy and Retail Operations and supporting functions leadership to ensure alignment of content messaging and timing of communication messages.

+ Acts as a leader for Communications to effectively communicate company positions, goals and objectives to all audiences. Identifies target audiences for messaging and designs communications that engages the reader.

+ Responsible for coaching, managing, mentoring and developing direct reports. Collaborates with leaders to identify engaging stories and messages pertaining to business objectives, employee profiles and company activities that present Walgreens as an employer of choice and a best-in-class employer.

+ Maintains a series of metrics on the function’s performance against best practice standards; monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of efforts. Manages department performance against budget.

External Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience working within an in-house communications function with a global organization and/or in an agency OR High School/GED and at least 11 years of experience working within an in-house communications function with a global organization and/or in an agency.

+ Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of progressively responsible experience working within an in-house communications function with a global organization and/or in an agency OR a High School diploma/GED and at least 11 years of progressively responsible experience working within an in-house communications function with a global organization and/or in an agency.

+ Experience leading the delivery of internal communications component of Group engagement programs.

+ Experience developing a communications strategy for the C-Suite executives and broader leadership teams based on the implementation of a best-in-class feedback gathering and reporting process.

+ Experience leading and driving results on strategic internal projects, driving collaboration between internal departments and external working groups.

+ At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.

+ At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.

+ Willing to travel up to/at least 15% of the time for business purposes (domestically and/or internationally).

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related field and at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience working within an in-house communications function with a global organization and/or in an agency OR a High School diploma/GED and at least 14 years of progressively responsible experience working within an in-house communications function with a global organization and/or in an agency.

+ Master’s degree OR MBA
