Job Description

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA CHAMPAIGN

DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY CLINICAL MEDICINE

Open Rank Tenure or Clinical Track in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging

25%-100% appointment (12-month basis)

Are you interested in a collaborative in-hospital work experience which also allows you to maximize your earning potential with teleradiology/consulting opportunities?

The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) is seeking an additional clinical radiologist to join our team as a faculty member. This position is a flexible, benefits eligible appointment, ranging from 25-100%. This flexibility allows ample free time for teleradiology/consulting opportunities. In this position, primary duties include case interpretation/consultation on the clinic floor and teaching of the department's clinical year students and house officers. Didactic teaching and research are not required but can be pursued, if interested. After hours emergency call is not required. If a tenure track position is deemed appropriate, there will be expectations and opportunities for scholarship.

The VTH boasts top of the line equipment, including a Siemens Somatom 128 slice CT, 3T Siemens Magnetom Skyra MRI, and a Canon Aplio 700 ultrasound machine. Our reading room is equipped with three diagnostic workstations, each with two diagnostic monitors and two non-diagnostic monitors. Our current team includes a board-certified radiologist, diagnostic imaging intern, five imaging technicians, and two imaging coordinators. Ultrasound exams are performed by our excellent imaging technicians and can be interpreted in-house or sent out for interpretation.

Our moderate caseload is supported by a teleradiology service which assists with case overflow. This allows for a pressure-free case reading and consulting environment. This position will not include large animal image interpretation unless the candidate has a specific interest. The diagnostic imaging department supports robust neurology, internal medicine, soft tissue/orthopedic surgery, radiation/medical oncology, and ECC services. We also consult on cases for our dermatology, exotics medicine, and dentistry services.

Requirements: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have achieved ACVR board certification or completed residency training with credentials accepted by ACVR. Preference will be given to candidates with ACVR certification and an interest in teaching.

Professional opportunities: The University of Illinois has a tradition of excellence as a Land Grant University and a Tier One Research University. The College of Veterinary Medicine is lauded for our unique clinically integrated professional veterinary curriculum and is supported by innovators in teaching, learning, course design, continuing education, and medical illustration. The College is also focused on advancing clinical, applied and translational research efforts across the college and university by developing quality relationships with world-class scientists and investigators. With these resources, the motivated candidate will find significant opportunity and support to craft a fulfilling and rewarding career.

Our faculty and staff provide broad public engagement through operation of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, a regional primary and referral care center for the delivery of state-of-the art veterinary medical services. The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine features modern research and animal care facilities and is planning an exciting, large-scale expansion of our surgical corridor and intensive care unit. Our faculty conduct discovery and provide instruction and service relevant to companion animals, horse, food and fiber animals, exotic, wildlife and zoological species. We are dedicated not only to animal health and welfare, but also to the improved understanding of the human-animal bond, food production systems and ecosystem health. The University of Illinois is a premier public research university and is gaining recognition for its uniquely multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research environment.

Personal opportunities: Urbana-Champaign offers the residential advantages of a medium-sized university city, including a rich experience of farm-to-table cuisine, music, art, all-season outdoor activities, and other life-enriching opportunities. There is easy access to many large cities in the Midwest including Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, Milwaukee, and more.
