Postdoctoral Research Associate -- Early Childhood Math and Family Engagement

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction ( https://education.illinois.edu/ci ) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks a postdoctoral research associate who will take the lead in intervention implementation, data collection, and analysis in Math Partners , a NSF-funded project that uses early math learning in preschool to support relationships between home and school. The postdoctoral research associate will have expertise in early childhood education, family engagement, and/or early math pedagogy. The postdoc must also demonstrate scholarly activity/potential related to socially just practices in the early years and to diversity, equity, and inclusion in schools. The postdoc will be expected to develop and lead their own research agenda in addition to contributing to the project team. They will also have opportunities to collaborate with other faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students in the Departments of Curriculum & Instruction and Special Education in the College of Education as well as with the Erikson Institute.

Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as program coordinator for Math Partners (collaborate with faculty and school-based participants, schedule and facilitate program meetings, assist in writing reports).

• Work as the lead instructional coach in the Math Partners intervention.

• Plan and facilitate meetings with research participants.

• Serve as the lead data collector and support data analysis.

• Conduct independent research in the area of family engagement and/or math pedagogy.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a doctorate in early childhood education, math education, teacher education, or related field, within the past five years or have proof of completion by August 16, 2024. Evidence of scholarly activity/potential is required. Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

Preferred Experience: Teaching experience in preschool through second grade. Research (published or in progress) in early math and/or family engagement. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience with professional development, particularly coaching teachers.

Salary and Appointment Information

This 12-month appointment has a preferred start date of August 16, 2024, and is renewable annually upon mutual interest for up to four years. The wage for this position is $60,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
