Job Summary:

The School of Social Work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an Open Rank Teaching Professor position with an emphasis on school social work and knowledge of the Professional Educator's License (PEL). The successful candidate will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of our PEL initiatives while teaching courses within the school. This role is crucial in ensuring our educators meet rigorous state standards, maintaining high educational quality across Illinois.

Key Responsibilities:


Teaching Coursework Deliver high-quality instruction in courses related to school social work practice, and public school policies and services.
Update curriculum to meet the evolving standards and requirements for school social work education.
Mentor and support students in their academic and professional development.

PEL Program Oversight Refine and manage the school's PEL program, including the creation and implementation of new initiatives.
Guide students through the PEL application and renewal processes, conducting informational sessions and providing updates on state regulations.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate licensure requirements into the core curriculum, particularly focusing on special education and ESL instruction.
Work with field education instructors with PEL expertise to integrate classroom and field education requirements.
Ensure compliance with State Board of Education and Council on Social Work Education standards.
Provide additional tutoring and resources for students needing further assistance in passing PEL examinations.

Program Development and Evaluation Strategically expand and innovate post-MSW pathways to professional education licensure, including fast-track options and additional course offerings.
Monitor and analyze legislative proposals related to educator licensure, providing updates and strategic advice to school leadership.
Collaborate with educational and professional organizations to form unified stances on legislation affecting social work education and licensure.

Stakeholder Engagement Maintain effective relationships with state education officials and relevant stakeholders.
Represent the school in meetings and collaborations with other educational institutions and agencies.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D, or DSW. Understanding of the educational landscape, PEL licensure processes, and accreditation standards. Familiarity with state and national regulations affecting educator licensure. Experience in curriculum development, program evaluation, and compliance with state educational standards. Current Illinois Professional Educator License

Preferred Qualifications:
PEL School Social Work or Special Education endorsement. Experience in leadership roles within educational settings. Strong background in developing and managing educational programs. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time non-tenure track faculty position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the job posting closes. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Work for this position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
