About the Department

Public Health Sciences (PHS) is the home in the Biological Sciences Division to biostatistics, epidemiology and health services research. These core fields in public health research share a focus on the development and implementation of complex analytic methods to understand the determinants of health, the efficacy of experimental treatments, and the structure of health care at the population level. Bringing together these fields in one department underscores their commonality and enhances opportunities for interdisciplinary research. Faculty members lead local, national, and international studies, and also welcome opportunities to collaborate with faculty across the Biological Sciences Division and the university. Substantively, our research themes include social and environmental determinants of health, genetics and disease, the economics of health care, and the evaluation and implementation of new technologies in public health and clinical care. In terms of methodological expertise, areas in which our faculty has developed innovative approaches include: risk factor measurement; multilevel, clustered and longitudinal data; clinical trials; administrative health data; social networks; and statistical methods to assess the genetic and molecular basis of disease.

Job Summary

Professors Joseph Dov Bruch and Betsy Cliff are looking to hire a full-time Research Analyst for various projects focusing on health policy, health care financing, private equity, and medical debt. The ideal candidate would start on August 1, 2024 (flexible).

This position is expected to begin on August 1, 2024 and end on July 31, 2025, contingent upon operational needs and funding availability.

Also, this at-will position is wholly or partially funded by extramural funds (e.g., grant, gift, endowment) which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor. This employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these extramural funds and satisfactory job performance. If this position is eliminated due to the discontinuation of extramural funding a minimum of one pay period's written notice will be given (30 days), or pay in-lieu of notice.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree with quantitative focus (and training in programming).
  • Bachelor's degree completed by July 2024.

Experience:
  • Possess strong quantitative and programming skills.
  • Research experience is highly preferred, particularly for those proficient in Stata and/or R.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Write programs in Stata and/or R to analyze large datasets.

Preferred Competencies
  • Highly organized, timely, and responsive.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Considerable skill in working both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to take initiative and organize and complete projects with minimal supervision.
