Maintenance Worker
This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month appointment covered by the Professional Support Staff (PSS) Union with an annual salary of $36,985.30.

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for coordinating the assembly, setup, and tear down of equipment and furniture for special events and troubleshooting facility problems during events. This position assists the custodial team with maintaining a clean, attractive, and sanitary environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors in support of Parkland College's main goal of quality education. Overtime or an altered work schedule may be required. The Maintenance Worker must be able to work independently and accurately prioritize tasks.

Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate the assembly, set up, and tear down of equipment and furniture for special events.

Troubleshoot facility problems during events.

Coordinate furniture and equipment moves needed to facilitate construction/remodel projects and new equipment installation.

Assess work orders received by Physical Plant and assemble the necessary resources to complete the tasks.

Clean and maintain safe and orderly facilities, light repairs and maintenance.

Sort through and remove obsolete items from storage areas as directed.

Transport and lift items for students, staff, faculty, administration, and visitors unable to perform the function themselves.

Prepare requisitions for necessary equipment or supplies.

Oversee/direct the work of student workers and part-time hourly workers.

Work independently and prioritize tasks.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted. If hired, candidate must pass a physical examination.
Ability to pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
Valid driver's license and insurability to drive for the College.

Understand modular office furniture assembly/disassembly and operation of furniture moving equipment.

Appropriately and safely use cleaning compounds, equipment, and chemicals.

Verbal and mathematical skills sufficient to prepare and respond to work orders and other department correspondence.
In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
