Maintenance 2 (Engineering & Public Works) Sanitary Sewer

SALARY: $35.45 per hour or dependent on contract language based on a 40-hour workweek. This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the EPWLocal 150 collective bargaining agreement available on our website.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position performs work of a skilled to semi-skilled nature which requires special training and/or experience; must have knowledge and skills which approach journeyman level in one or more trades. Work consists of maintaining and repairing public works facilities such as pavement maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance; assignments are received at the beginning of each new job from the supervisor but employees in this class are expected to exercise some judgment in selecting work methods, equipment, material, and planning; training is received for special tasks; operates a truck with snow plow and other equipment which may require special skills; may train other employees; may act as a crew leader.
The Sanitary Division is responsible for all maintenance and repairs to the village's sanitary sewer collections system. The division's responsibilities include cleaning, televising, and repairing manholes, sanitary service lines, sanitary force main, and sanitary sewer main owned by the village.
JOB DUTIES:
1. All those listed in the Maintenance Worker 1 position.
2. Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement of Village infrastructure.
3. Acts as a crew leader and instructs workers on methods, procedures, and safety requirements used on maintenance and repair projects.
4. Determines tools and materials needed for assignments.
5. Uses and cares for tools and equipment used by the division.
6. Monitors contractors and provides contract oversight.
7. Investigates and resolves customer service requests relating to the division.
8. Locates underground utilities, including street lighting system components to satisfy the JULIE obligations.
9. Assists with administrative functions.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2. A minimum of three years of experience in the Engineering & Public Works Department, and/or knowledge of skilled maintenance and construction work.
3. If working in the Sanitary Sewer division, the ability to obtain the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) certification to practice PACP and MACP is required within two years from the date of hire.
4. Possession of a valid State of Illinois Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six months from the date of hire.
5. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
