Position Highlights:
Position: Pathology Technician I
Location: Evanston Hospital
Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
Hours: Monday-Friday, 3pm-11:30pm

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Basic college-courses in Biology and Chemist preferred
Certification:None
Experience: No experience required, however, some healthcare experience is a plus
Skills: Ability to work efficiently in a highly organized manner with particular attention to detail. Must possess strong communication and customer service skills and be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment. Capable of performing basic problem identification and resolution. Ability to accurately type 20 words per minute. Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

What you will do:
*Provide non-technical support by accurately assigning surgical pathology case numbers and entering these cases in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
*Ensure specimen container(s), requisition, and cassettes match for patient identification and specimen site.
*Resolve discrepancies prior to gross examinations.
*Provide support services for the Anatomic Pathology department by assisting the pathologist, pathologists' assistant, and or/resident in preparing specimens for gross dissection and frozen section-slide diagnosis.
*Perform quality control, maintain gross room equipment, maintenance logs, and other gross room duties, as assigned.
*Answer phone calls, receive specimens from outside departments and provide exceptional customer service.
*Complete end-of-day duties, including, but not limited to, filling out a specimen log and packing up blocks and/or specimens to be sent out via courier service.
