Position Highlights:
Elmhurst Hospital 155 E. Brush Hill Road Elmhurst, IL.
Part Time: 0.5 FTE
Hours: 9:30pm-6am Monday-Friday; Includes weekend and holiday rotations

A Brief Overview:
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, prepares, collects, logs and labels specimens for testing. Registers patient information and orders laboratory tests in the computer system. Prepares specimens for further processing and or testing by Laboratory staff. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by assigned shift or assigned area.

What you will do:
Actively promotes patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members. Treats patients with respect and caring. Follows up and resolves patient complaints. Instructs and encourages coworkers to treat patients and hospital staff courteously. Enhances the laboratory's image by reacting positively with all customers.
Performs phlebotomy duties as trained/required.
Receives laboratory specimens, ensures proper and complete patient information on specimens and test requisitions, investigates and resolves discrepancies in specimen identification and test orders.
Processes specimens in preparation for laboratory testing, including verification of specimen receipt in computer system, appropriate labeling of specimens, use of centrifuge, ensuring proper transport and processing conditions to maintain integrity of specimens, efficient and expedient distribution of specimens to appropriate testing areas within the laboratory.
Prepares specimens for transport to reference laboratories, including allocating of specimens, appropriate labeling of transport containers, maintaining specimens at appropriate temperatures or with appropriate preservatives necessary for each specific test, arranging for transportation of specimens, especially those of STAT priority. Maintains computer logs and/or manual files as needed.

What you will need:
High School Diploma/GED or higher
Completion of a phlebotomy training program including a minimum of 100 clinical training hours
