The University of Chicago Crown Family School is the academic home to the Urban Education Institute (UEI), an internationally and nationally renowned institute with the aim of promoting applied research on youth development and learning in formal and informal settings. UEI conducts rigorous applied research, trains researchers and practitioners, and provides research-based tools and resources in schools across the country.

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Learning and Engagement will be charged with setting vision and direction for and leading our communications, engagement, and events efforts; our collective To&Through professional learning offerings; and our qualitative data and storytelling projects. The Associate Director of Learning and Engagement will report to the Executive Director of the To&Through Project and will serve as a leader on our To&Through team supervising and managing the Stories and Engagement Team.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the To&Through Project's engagement and communications work, including the website, social media, listserv, webinars, and newsletters.
  • Build and maintain relationships with education and community stakeholders across the city, representing and connecting the To&Through Project's workwith a variety of different audiences including, but not limited to, K-12, higher education, non-profit and community based organizations.
  • Set vision and direction and lead the team to execute on in-person and virtual events including, but not limited to, Data Collaboratives, Research Spotlights, Webinars, Postsecondary Attainment Index Events, Tool Workshops, etc. with a focus on the number of participants engaged and hosting events that advance our mission.
  • Strategize around how to best convene leaders, stakeholders, and practitioners through our events initiatives with a focus on sparking collaboration across our middle grades through the postsecondary Chicago landscape.
  • Clarify core To&Through professional learning vision and stance, leveraging that vision to create tools to support our team in designing, facilitating, and improving upon professional learning experiences.
  • Lead the development of a responsive menu of professional learning options that the To&Through Project offers both as part of our work to support Chicago Public Schools and beyond, with the option of fee-for-service offerings to continue to expand revenue generation.
  • Support our collective team in building skills and practice around professional learning with a focus on adult Learning, session design, and facilitation
  • Set vision and direction for our storytelling and qualitative data initiatives including Student Stories and Learning Cases.
  • Write and source qualitative data for our Learning Cases and design accompanying facilitation guides.
  • Plan, design, and facilitate qualitative data sessions around our Learning Cases, Student Stories, and the use of qualitative data.
  • Supervise the T&T Engagement Analyst to execute on Student Stories creation and facilitation and engagement/communications work.
  • Manage a budget for T&T events, engagement, and qualitative work.
  • Supervise the Stories and Engagement Team in achieving goals and executing on core work including communications, engagement, and qualitative projects.
  • Participate in our internal leadership team and contribute to building team culture and making collaborative decisions for our To&Through Project team.
  • Under the direction of the Dean and in cooperation with school senior leadership, advises and develops strategies, programs, and relationships to advance the school and the University globally.
  • Uses deep knowledge of the University of Chicago and divisional vision and values to assess, evaluate, and recommends opportunities for collaboration with global partners.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
