Position Requirements/Functions:
Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment through the use of welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools
Apply heat to permanently join metal parts to repair and fabricate metal structures, machinery and equipment
Operate and fully use flame-cutting- plasma torches, hand-soldering, or brazing equipment
Produce metal products according to customer or employer specifications
Use multiple welding machines to repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes
Read and interpret diagrams, sketches and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and timeframes for projects
Reading blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan layout and procedures
Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Setting up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications
High School diploma or equivalent education
Experience as welder

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Sharp eye for detail
Use potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions
Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties
Use electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
