JOB DESCRIPTION

The following is a list of specific duties which are considered the essential functions of this job. The list is not exhaustive, as all positions at BWay are dynamic. The employee who occupies this position is expected to assume any / all duties assigned by management irrespective of whether such duties are specifically included in this list:
  • Drive and operate forklifts to move materials throughout designated locations.
  • Coordinate with departments to position materials in necessary areas.
  • Move materials from and to materials center and shipping warehouse.
  • Stack/unstack materials for storage and shipping.
  • Present and remove materials from work areas.
  • Serving trailers to provide materials for shipping and processing.
  • Load and unload truck trailers.
  • Place items onto the forklift.
  • Ensure material is stored based on current and future needs
  • Works in a warehouse, at a construction site, or in a retail environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting if it is not working properly.
  • Have sending and receiving duties on the loading dock.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Marking and scanning materials for inventory control.
  • Communicate with forklift drivers and workers to adjust movements.
Job Scope: Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
  • Works on assignments that are semi routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice.
  • Competent in tasks that are beyond entry level.
  • Usually, the forklift driver will be assigned tasks for the day and then will perform these tasks independently.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiar with the workings of a forklift
  • Understands the logistics of the facility being worked in and to place items in the proper area.
  • Communication skills are still essential in order to help the workflow and to maintain safety.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Job hours vary widely, and may require the forklift driver to work late-night or early-morning shifts.
  • Preferred: certified forklift driver
  • Must comply with quality, PPE requirements and safety and understand the importance of complying with safety policies and procedures.
Physical/Visual Demands/Work Environment:
  • Performing REPETITIVE or short-cycle work: Involves performing a few routine and uninvolved tasks repeatedly according to set procedures, sequences, or pace with little opportunity for diversion or interruption. Interaction with people is included when it is routine, continual, or prescribed.
  • Performing effectively under STRESS: Involves coping with circumstances dangerous to the worker or others.
  • Dealing with PEOPLE: Involves interpersonal relationships in job situations beyond receiving work instructions.
  • Making JUDGEMENTS and Decisions: Involves solving problems, making evaluations, or reaching conclusions based on subjective or objective criteria, such as the five senses, knowledge, past experiences, or quantifiable or factual data.
  • Strength: Controls hand-arm and foot-leg machinery
  • Near acuity: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less
  • Far acuity: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
  • Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are.
  • Accommodation: Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.
  • Field of vision: Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
  • Ability to lift heavy items.
  • Climb under and on top of machinery, trucks, storage racks, etc.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:
  • This job is sometimes carried out in the outdoors, subjecting the driver to unpleasant weather conditions.
  • Noise intensity level: (4 Loud): Can manufacturing department; large earth-moving equipment; heavy traffic.
  • Proximity to moving mechanical parts: Exposure to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tolls, or machinery.
  • Risk of Collision: Potential to crash into machinery, personal, stacks of product, or other forklifts.
  • Exposure to weather: exposure to outside atmospheric conditions
