Caterpillar products help create the infrastructure, power and products that motivate the global economy. You have the opportunity to join the Wheeled Products Light Fabrication System team. The team has Light Fabrications design control for Large Mining Trucks, Large Wheel Loaders, Off Highway Trucks, Wheel Tractor Scrapers, Articulated Trucks, and Hard Rock Vehicles. This team of engineers gain broad exposure to design, analysis, test, manufacturing, and supplier collaboration. In this role, you will lead to develop and continuously improve the features, quality, and cost on Off Highway Trucks and Wheel Tractor Scrapers. As a member of the Light Fabrication Engineering team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do may include, but not limited to:

+ Create concepts and designs to solve complex engineering projects.

+ Utilize CREO to create highly integrated designs within machine platforms.

+ Lead the NPI design, CPI and maintenance deliverables for the Light Fabrication Team.

+ Meet the Cost / Time / Quality goals on NPI and CPI projects and machine platforms.

+ Conduct requirements management, DFMEA, DVP& R (design verification plan & report)

+ Support/Lead design review meetings

+ Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process and Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) activity to ensure components are developed to meet time, cost, and quality requirements within budget.

+ Collaborate with other engineering team members, purchasing, suppliers, and Caterpillar product group customers.

What you will have:

+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering curriculum or Engineering Technology

+ Progressive engineering and product development experience

+ Proficiency in Creo or other 3-D design tools

Top Candidates will also have:

+ Advanced degree in related Engineering discipline

+ Experience of NPI, CPI, Cost and Teamcenter tools / processes

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills

+ Strong analytical skills

+ Caterpillar component and systems knowledge, preferably gained on RI wheel products (ATK / HRV / LMT / LWL / OHT / WTS)

+ Strong collaboration skills, ability to work with a global team including the flexibility to participate in early morning or late evening meetings with partners and suppliers around the world.

- Performs manipulations on design objects, such as changing projections and managing drawing layers.

- Directs the matrix computations performed to transform objects in coordinate space.

- Consults on benefits and drawbacks of top-down design vs. bottom-up design.

- Compares and contrasts uses of bird’s-eye views and worm’s-eye views.

Product Design – MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

Level Extensive Experience:

- Develops improvement plans for senior management and evaluates the outcome of the design against the functionality.

- Advises others on the development of multiple products and their functionality.

- Trains others on advanced tools and approaches of product design.

- Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met.

- Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses.

- Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination.
