Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer – Marine Cooling Design at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, Illinois 61523.

Responsible for design of marine engine cooling components and is highly technical in nature. Accountable for the design/ development of marine aftercoolers, coolant/ sea water pumps, heat exchangers, fuel coolers, shunt tanks on marine diesel engines in lead role to support of NTI, NPI, CPI projects. Involve mentoring and supporting the new engineers in marine component development and resolution of key issues as a subject matter expert. Work closely with Engine product groups/ technical leads to understand technical and application requirements for engine programs. Close collaboration with key strategic suppliers is necessary to ensure the most effective design and development processes in support of our IPSD and LPSD engine businesses. Various groups, such as global purchasing, internal performance and structural simulation teams are strong process partners of this role. Clear and consistent communications and solid technical aptitude in marine engine cooling are essential in this position for effective collaboration with diverse teams. Maintain robust design component guides and validation processes. Lead failure issue resolution on marine cooling components. Develop robust innovative technologies for marine components in support for future programs. Facilitate thorough Design FMEA’S and component DVP&R’s. Coordinate validation testing and simulation activities (FEA/CFD). Maintain component project plans as part of traditional product development cycles. Participate and present program status of the design to Key stake holders / Platform teams. Manage APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and CPPD (Concurrent Product and Process Development) to ensure components are developed to meet time, cost, and quality requirements within budget. Collaborate with cross functional teams from purchasing, suppliers, and CAT product group customers.

REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s, degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Design Engineer, or other related occupation in the component design and development field. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Designing heat exchangers, charge air coolers, fuel coolers, shunt tanks on marine diesel engines with concurrent project management experience and supplier collaboration; (2) Marine Sea water and Coolant pump design experience; (3) Areas of casting and fabrications design experience; (4) APQP/ New Product development experience; (5) Current production issue resolution experience on marine components; (6) FMEA/ DVP&R generation experience; and (7) CREO/Team center experience.

Telecommuting: 2 days/week. 10% domestic travel to CAT product group customers, suppliers, and Caterpillar manufacturing facilities.
