Job Description
Position Overview
Encore’s Event Infrastructure Services group designs, installs, and operates event technology infrastructure (Audio-Visual, Digital Signage, Rigging, Power Distribution, and Internet connectivity) in venues like hotels and convention centers. The Systems Designer will evaluate venue needs and create designs that are safe and functional while ensuring adherence to the technical installation standards in place. The Systems Designer will be specialized in one of the following disciplines.
Rigging Systems
Design new and upgraded installed rigging point systems and attachments which provide safe and effective operation as well as secure structural connection for Encore’s rigging and life safety installation operations.
Audio Visual Systems
Design innovative, immersive, tactile audio-visual systems (ballroom and meeting room AV), architectural technology (lighting, displays), and digital signage that integrates seamlessly into the venue.
Key Job Responsibilities
Systems Design
- Evaluate existing installations, including conducting site visits and analysing existing drawing sets, create a variety of recommended solutions based on business need and using Encore’s guidelines for design practice.
- Create detailed drawings, schematics, renderings, access plans, bills of materials and scopes of work using CAD, Vectorworks, Visio and other supported platforms.
- Support sales by providing consultative technical expertise and participating in client interaction to win the business, iterating the design to match budget needs.
- Work directly with venue Engineering, General Contractors, Architects, permitting authorities, regulatory agencies and other third party vendors to ensure designs meet all structural, electrical and engineering standards for their intended use.
Design Standards
- Using a sound knowledge of existing Encore practice, relevant national and international standards, and the venue brand guidelines, contribute to the continuous improvement of Encore design standards, proposals, document templates, training materials, maintenance plans and other tools.
- Maintain and grow a knowledge of relevant products and advocate for ways to use them in design guidelines developing an adaptive and forward-thinking design philosophy.
- Work with procurement to identify, select, and prioritize vendors and equipment based on overall product support, availability and performance.
- Peform post-install analysis to understand how well the original design concept held up against the objectives and recommend improvements for future designs.
Installation Support
- Partner with project management and installation teams to address installation challenges, suggesting alterations to the design where necessary to complete the project.
- Act as the liaison to third party vendors like venue Engineering, General Contractors, Architects, permitting authorities, regulatory agencies and others supporting as required to expedite engineering, permitting documents, and obtaining post-install sign off.
Job Qualifications
- BA degree in related field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of CAD software experience is encouraged
- Client relationship experience
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 & office tools
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Strong customer service skills, excellent written/oral communication and organizational skills, including client relationship skills
- Works well under pressure and ability to multi task
- Proficient problem solving and troubleshooting skills
For Rigging Systems
- 2+ years of rigging install experience
- Familiarity with ESTA / PLASA / ANSI / OSHA requirements
- Familiarity with rigging equipment and operations
For Audio Visual Systems
- 2+ years of Audio Visual installation design experience
- Construction background preferred
- CTS certification is a plus (CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I)
- Familiarity with NFPA
- Knowledge of audio , video and control systems as well as architectural and cabling requirements
- Knowledge of control systems such as Crestron, AMX, QSYS, Control One.

Office
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Working times may include irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
