JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
This position is responsible for designing new assembly tooling and assembly fixtures for product assembly. The position also requires designing tooling for specific tests and departments as requested. All tools must meet quality and manufacturing specifications provided by standards and the customer.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS
Design tools for production and specialty use.
Build prototypes.
Decide on material requirements or specific applications.
Use a CAD system to design mechanical tools.
Work with vendors and Manufacturing to develop and design the tools and processes.
Obtain purchased mechanical items necessary for the production of the tools.
Design assembly machines and fixtures for production and R&D when required.
Design Equipment from a mechanical point of view and if needed help with the electronics and programming.
Attain vendor specifications on parts to be purchased.
Determine the materials needed.
Instruct technicians on how to assemble the design.
Estimate the cost of fixtures.
Determine different methods for design.
Analyze the cost associated with each method of design.
Study and implement processes, research technologies, and implement when appropriate.
Investigate current processes.
Develop new process technologies.
Implement new technologies.
Stabilize manufacturing processes.
Research and implement new materials for use in production.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements
Education
Mechanical Engineer I - 4-year degree in Engineering
Experience
Mechanical Engineer I - 4-year degree in Engineering
Knowledge / Technical Requirements
Knowledge of materials desired
Knowledge of technical design required
Knowledge of geometrical tolerance desired
Knowledge of statistical process control is desired
Competencies, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work independently on a CAD workstation required (Pro-E desired.)
