Description
Under administrative direction from the Associate Dean for Research, this position assists with the pre-award, post-award, review, negotiation, submission and administration of research contract agreements and proposal applications from/to state, federal and foundation funding agencies, industry sponsors, pharmaceutical companies that sponsor research development and clinical research activities conducted by SIU faculty at SIU and its affiliated hospitals and clinics.
 Examples of Duties
Administration 100%

Assist in review of proposal applications, research grant submissions, confidential disclosure agreements, clinical trial agreements, institutional authorization agreements, data use agreements, individual investigator agreements. Identify areas of concern and directly coordinate and communicate with sponsors, local, state and federal agencies, legal counsel, hospital personnel.
Assist in the review and negotiation of research contracts and research development project budgets and verify research billing, budget and conflict of interest compliance according to federal regulations, institutional and hospital requirements.
Guide investigators and research staff in preparation and submission of proposals.
Assist in developing and implementing processes to expedite the flow of proposal submissions and contractual agreements through sponsoring companies, principal investigators, study coordinators, local, state and federal agencies, department staff, legal counsel, and local hospitals.
Communicate with the appropriate research regulatory committees, , legal counsel, sponsors and clinical research organizations to discuss any issues related to a new or ongoing clinical trials and reconcile contract language with informed consent documents prior to contract execution. Route contracts for review and comment as applicable.
Provide status updates to principal investigators, sponsors, external agencies, study coordinators, departmental administrators and hospitals.
Assist in interpreting funding agency and industry policies and regulations; keep abreast of changes in sponsor and industry policies and regulations.
Assist in review of final, confidential documents for completeness and accuracy; obtain all necessary institutional approval and signatures on executed documents and return to sponsors for signature.
Assist with post-award functions such as completion of Advance Account Requests and Grant and Contract Award Acceptance (GCAA) forms.
Complete supplemental contract documents including intergovernmental agreements, payment information forms, specific sponsor documents, progress reports, etc.
Develop, update and maintain spreadsheets, institution and inter-departmental databases and tracking systems for contract documents, budgets, grant information.
Prepare routine graphs, reports, charts of contract status, time to execution, proposal submission metrics, etc.
Create and modify SOPs, checklists, forms for grants and contracts submissions and procedures.
Assist with standardization of research contract, subaward, subcontract templates.
Assist in the development and delivery of informational and educational research-related presentations for faculty and staff.
Provide information and guidance to principal investigators, study coordinators, departmental administrators and hospitals.
Research and identify grant, contract and funding sources and opportunities. Guide faculty and staff toward funding opportunities.
Serve as a resource for grant and contract submission process. Identify and resolve errors with local, state and federal grant and contract submission systems.
Serve on university, school and departmental committees and advisory boards as assigned.
Serve as a valuable team member in the Office of Grants and Contracts and grants@siumed.edu working groups.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position
