Description
The person in this position performs functions related to the daily operation of the call center for the Department of Surgery. The individual works in a variety of appointment skillsets, but also functions as a lead worker in the absence of the coordinator. The incumbent assists training staff, maintaining protocols, and developing and implementing procedures.
 Examples of Duties
Phone Responsibilities 80%
1. Respond to all incoming and interoffice calls and escorts' callers to the appropriate party.
2. Schedule new and return patient appointments for providers per established guidelines. Cancel and reschedule patient appointments.
3. Respond to paging requests and conference callers together as required.
4. Access Halo to obtain call schedule to enable accurate and efficient routing of calls.
5. Register patients via telephone to obtain demographic information and direct them to the appropriate services, policies and/or procedures of the medical practice.
6. Update patient demographics in the Athena/lDX system when appropriate.
7. Access and communication of patient information via Electronic Medical Record
8. Ability to learn and operate web based systems

Administrative 20%
1. Assists in training of personnel, monitors work completed and alerts medical Office Coordinator of problems which occur.
2. Suggests and aids in implementing efficient procedures in the call center area.
3. Responsible for identifying duplicate accounts and forwarding pertinent information to the System Support Unit for proper adjustments.
4. Responsible for maintaining inventory of equipment and/or supplies.
5. Responsible for reporting equipment failures to appropriate staff.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
 Qualifications

Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:
College education with coursework in a medical or para-medical field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary and/or business fields such as business, finance, computer science, public administration, or social science, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Associate level or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
