Based out of our operations in Alton, IL, this role will be responsible for wastewater treatment/production. As the Senior Supervisor of Operations, you will lead and train employees, oversee the facility from a regulatotory and budgetary standpoint, monitor materials and workloads and more. Our ideal candidate will have water and/or wastewater treatment experience and be familair with working in a leadership capacity. _ Primary Role_ /Managing water or wastewater treatment production facility/facilities ensuring cost-effective, high-quality customer service and operational integrity. Responsibilities include managing plant personnel, capital resources, business processes that are engaged in the functional area of water and wastewater operations in accordance with company policies, procedures, all applicable governmental laws, and water and wastewater operations./ _ Key Accountabilities_ * Establish, maintain, and continuously improve the health and safety culture within production environment. * Create an environment of accountability and implement high performance safety programs, including the provision of resources, time, equipment, and training. * Works with approved contractors in the operation area verifying, work product, safety, compliance, and order completions. * Lead, motivate and develop staff in assigned operation area. * Communicate a shared vision, empower staff, and champion safety and diversity. * Resolve union and/or non-union labor issues, with the assistance from Human Resources. * Drive performance by linking business unit objectives to company goals and values. * Build shared commitment to improving business performance. * Develop both individual and team capabilities in union environments. * Provide operational input to annual business plans, control O&M/capital budgets for responsible area to ensure that operation and financial targets are met. * Ensure that operational integrity is maintained, including environmental and regulatory compliance. * Implement work activities and systems to ensure a high level of priority is placed on ensuring our water and wastewater treatment is always meeting or exceeding all regulatory standards as well as customer expectations. * Manage operational and business processes to ensure that American Water policies are followed, best practices are implemented, and internal/external reporting requirements are satisfied. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Effective communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize tasks. * Effective empowers others by sharing ownership and visibility. * Demonstrate empathetic leadership with integrity. * Extensive knowledge of the regulated water utility business and its operations. * Knowledge of the applicable regulations, requirements and trends impacting water and wastewater utilities . * Thorough understanding of standard business practices and principles. * Strong knowledge of computers, in-depth knowledge of Microsoft office suite applications and other pertinent software. * Electrical / Mechanical knowledge preferred * Leadership in a union environment preferred. _ Experience/Education_ * Four-year undergraduate degree in operational discipline, management, or related technical discipline preferred. * Minimum 2-5 years of leadership experience at a water or wastewater treatment facility . _ Travel Requirements_ * Local and occasional regional travel. _ Hours/Schedule_ * Full-time * Monday-Friday, day shift * 24/7 On-call responsibility _ Certifications & Licenses_ * Minimum Requirement: o Valid Driver’s License * Preferred: o Class I wastewater license and/or Class A drinking water license o Chief Operator Certification o Safety Certifications / Training _ Work Environment_ * Indoor and outdoor environment. * 24/7 operation * Must be able to sit, stand, bend and walk for long periods of time. _ *Competencies*_ Prioritizes & Role Models Safety Self-Awareness Develops Talent Plans, Aligns, & Directs Drives Engagement Decision Quality * Join American Water…We Keep Life Flowing* * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants* based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
