Description
The position will engage patients in Addiction Medicine to determine the extent of their needs, provide therapy, community assistance, and/or referral to psychiatry. Incumbent will supervise and train provisional licensed therapists within Addiction Medicine in Springfield and
also participate in the education of fellows and residents regarding the behavioral health aspects of addiction medicine.
 Examples of Duties
I. ADMINISTRATION (10%)
A. Train and provide clinical supervision for Peer Support Clinical Supervisor in Springfield.
B. Provide Clinical supervision for provisionally licensed therapists in Springfield Addiction
Medicine Clinic.
C. Supervise and manage therapy case conceptualization, level of care, and compliance to SIU,
FQHC and SUPR license with the Springfield clinic site.
D. Supervise adherence to SUPR Standards for compliance and standardization with BHCs and
informatics.
E. Interview and assist with the evaluation of Addiction Medicine Fellows.
II. SERVICE (70%)
A. Provide care to patients in clinic for mental health consult and/or therapy.
B. Provide individual and group mental health services for patients of Addiction Medicine.
C. Provide individual mental health and substance use therapy to patients.
D. Provide consult services, group mental health and substance use therapy to patients as needed
in-person or by telehealth among the Addiction Medicine division.
E. Serve on program and departmental committees, as requested.
F. Provide emergency services to patients as needed including those who are identified as
having no primary care physician.
G. Perform ongoing meetings in order to standardize information.
H. Serve on school and department committees, as assigned.
I. Participate in community outreach projects.
III. TEACHING (15%)
A. Teach counseling skills to medical professionals.
B. Provide experience for students (MD, NP, BHC, etc.) in recovery clinic.
C. Implement behavioral health curriculum to provisionally licensed therapist.
D. Serve as a mentor in clinical settings, with an emphasis on substance use.
E. Serve as a mentor to social work interns and peer recovery.
F. Support peer recovery programs, such as, group therapy and outreach services.
IV. RESEARCH (5%)
A. Perform periodic literature reviews on behavioral science topics to keep abreast of latest
developments in the field.
B. Participate in collaborative departmental research, as opportunities arise.
C. Participate in the development and/or delivery of presentations in areas of own interest.
 Qualifications
1. Masters degree in the social work or equivalent behavioral health-related field
2. Licensed or Eligible to be licensed to practice Social Work or Professional Counseling in the
State of Illinois at time of hire.
3. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
