Visiting Research Project Coord, Youth Tobacco Survey - Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute

The Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey is a collaborative project funded by the CDC, executed by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the University of Illinois. The university's college of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) faculty and Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute (IHSI) staff will meet regularly with the IDPH team, develop survey distribution and collections systems, handle outreach to schools, data analysis and reporting.

Job Summary
To serve as the research project coordinator for the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey project, administrating survey facilitation through research team management, statewide outreach initiatives, and adhering to research protocols. will also engage in the operations of IHSI Community-Academic Partnership programs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey research project, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and schools, to ensure the successful execution of the survey.
  • Manage a team of survey administrators and data analysts, providing guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate community-based programs at the graduate level, fostering professional development, mentorship opportunities, community-engagement, and research dissemination.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate findings to key stakeholders and the public.
  • Analyze survey data to identify trends, disparities, and emerging issues related to youth tobacco use.
  • Stay abreast of relevant research, policies, and best practices in tobacco control and youth prevention efforts.
  • Collaborate with IHSI cores to grow existing programs, reach new audiences, and partner with local organizations to address community needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Public Health.
  • One year (12 months) of work experience managing public health research or surveillance projects.
Specialty Factors
  • Graduate and/or undergraduate study focused in epidemiology.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders, including government agencies, schools, and community-based organizations.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of survey methodology and research design.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks, duties, responsibilities, and deadlines, according to goals set by project lead.
  • Strong communication skills, including documenting processes and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with principles of project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of survey methodology, data collection techniques, and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to accurately answer questions, solve problems, and work with external parties to meet needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).
  • Adaptability to adversity and creative problem solving.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience, with a budgeted minimum of $67,000.
