Job Summary:
Assists the Director of Forensics with all activities associated with the debate team including one-on-one coaching, small group coaching, instruction in argumentation skills and practices, debate theory, research techniques, and strategy development and design.Teaching occurs both on campus and at off campus competitions.The Assistant Debate Coach travels extensively with the team to tournaments around the country.Administrative responsibilities include assisting with several on-campus tournaments, public debates, and team related events.
Specific Responsibilities:
One-on-one and small group instruction including instruction in argumentation skills and practices, debate theory, research techniques, and strategy and development design
Assist with tournament hosting
Prepare for and support public debates
Prepare budgets, prepare expense reports, reconcile expenditures monthly.Departmental purchasing, maintaining team records, arranging team travel.
Tournament travel including logistics and arrangements for the team, actual travel with the team, and coaching/instructing the team while on the road
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
Three years national circuit college debate experience
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Demonstrated ability to research both public policy and critical theory strategies
Demonstrated ability to articulate complex arguments and strategies
Excellent writing skills
Strong organizational skills
Good management skills
Target hiring range for this position will be between $49,850-$62,595 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
