We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a dynamic and high growth environment to own the various accounting functions as the company accelerates through its next phase of growth. The Staff Accountant to the Hill Mechanical Corporation (HMC) division of The Hill Group (Hill) works closely with the CFO, Controller, Accounting Department and other related groups to assist in the accomplishment of department goals. This position will require attention to detail and prioritizing to meet deadlines. You will work in a small team with a shared common goal. The ideal candidate for this position will be a team player with a positive attitude and the ability to multitask and take on ad hoc projects.


Key Responsibilities:


Support Controller during month end close process, including preparing journal entries, balance sheet and P&L account reconciliations, and help in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules
Perform a variety of general accounting duties including:
Bank reconciliations for multiple entities
Reconcile intercompany transactions and investigate/resolve discrepancies
Monthly close for multiple operating units
Sales and Use Tax reconciliation and reporting for various states
Filing Annual reports to various states to ensure compliance
Solely responsible for preparing full financial statements for subsidiary companies
Maintain general ledger and WIP for smaller subsidiary companies
Evaluate local and state tax compliance for new states the Hill Group performs work in
Assist with implementation of new document imaging system for payables
Assist Controller during annual external audit
Serve as backup and support for payroll and project accountants: assist with billings, collections and payables as needed
Perform all other duties as assigned


Experience and Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field preferred, minimum of an Associate's Degree, or equivalent experience
5-7 years of related experience
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook); experience in Penta a plus
Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office
Experience with inter-company transactions and consolidations
Strong problem-solving skills and work ethic
Self-motivated with effective time management skills
Detailed-oriented, self-directed and able to effectively complete tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to articulate the need to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively on the status and progress
