Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Position Summary: The Hospice Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the Hospice volunteer program including: volunteer recruitment, volunteer training/development, volunteer support and advocacy, placement/match of volunteers and evaluation of the volunteer program. Participates as an active member of the hospice interdisciplinary team. Qualifications: EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associate’s Degree in related field EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One (1) year of experience with Volunteer programs. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Ability to assist with the organization/promotion of a volunteer training program. Insight into ways volunteers can be of service and involved within a hospice program. Ability to motivate/support persons involved in care of the dying. Knowledge of or ability to learn medical terminology and spreadsheet applications. Essential Functions:

+ Maintains accurate documentation within volunteer program. Monitors and maintains volunteer files, including mandated elements.

+ Volunteer Recruitment: Demonstrates active and ongoing efforts to recruit volunteers. Plans and implements recruitment strategies that produce desired results (i.e., recruitment of specific skills, recruitment of specific geographically located volunteers, and recruitment of a specified number of volunteers). Evaluates and modifies recruitment strategies as indicated.

+ Recruitment Screening: Identifies useful skills, abilities, aptitude and organizational fit of volunteer recruits using interview and screening processes.

+ Orients/Qualifies volunteers for service. Plans and implements initial orientation and training that result in qualified/competent volunteers eligible for service to hospice. Evaluates and modifies orientation and training as indicated by results achieved.

+ Conducts ongoing training and development of active volunteers. Plans and implements ongoing training and development of active hospice volunteers resulting in skill maintenance an enhancement of abilities to serve the hospice program. Evaluates and modifies ongoing training and development strategies as indicated.

+ Volunteer Retention: Retains satisfied volunteers committed to hospice service. Plan and implements retention strategies to maximize retention of qualified hospice volunteers. (Strategies may include, but are not limited to: ongoing training/development, rewards and recognition, support and advocacy ). Monitors retention and attrition rate and reason. Evaluates and modifies retention strategies as indicated.

+ Matching/placing volunteers in service: Efficiently and effectively matches volunteer requests with appropriately skilled volunteer.

+ Collaborates with leadership to develop new programs and opportunities for volunteer service within hospice program in the areas of administrative duties, bereavement services, direct patient care, indirect patient support, fundraising, community outreach, and organizational service.

+ Supervises and evaluates individual volunteer performance.

+ Rewards and recognizes volunteer service in a timely manner through informal, spontaneous, and formal methods.

+ Actively participates in IDT meetings/team communications by representing and advocating for volunteer program. Determines opportunities for volunteer support and enrichment of patient/family end of life experiences with Carle Hospice.

+ Maintains 5% Staff to Volunteer hours threshold per Conditions of Participation requirements and accreditation standards.
