This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

The mission of the Chicago Department of Public Health is to promote and improve health by engaging residents, communities, and partners in establishing and implementing policies and services that prioritize residents and communities. Under Supervision, the position will support the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Healthy Homes (LPPHH) program’s efforts to increase lead screening among young children and pregnant women in the City of Chicago.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Provide support to Nurse Case management personnel by conducting follow-up activities (generate correspondence; make telephone calls, e-mail letters, etc.).

· Document encounters in the IDPH Healthy Home & Lead Poisoning Surveillance System (HHLPSS).

· Follow-up on capillary blood lead results that need a confirmatory (venous) test.

· Performs venipuncture and fingerstick tests and processes specimen for analysis.

· Retrieve results of lab and developmental testing from healthcare providers as directed.

· Assist with medical billing & reimbursement of services provided by the nursing and inspection staff.

· Provide back-up support for receiving (Alerts) electronic notifications of lead levels from IDPH.

· Assist with retrieving client and family demographic information from standard databases such as HFS (Medicaid) & Cornerstone to update or complete missing client/family information.

· Perform finger sticks (capillary testing) for blood lead testing, using the Lead Care II Analyzer machine.

o Testing will include pediatric and adult clients at designated sites throughout the City of Chicago.

o Provide follow-up for clients and families with abnormal blood lead results.

· Perform routine clerical duties as required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of work experience conducting medical, or chemical and microbiological tests in an environmental, water quality, or medical/health sciences laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, will be selected.
