Number of Vacancies: 4 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

The position will work in the Chicago Police Department’s Strategic Planning Section engaging in the planning, development, and coordination of new initiatives, special projects, and programs that support the public safety agenda.

Essential Duties

· Participates on projects to streamline administrative and programmatic procedures in order to create cost efficiencies while accomplishing department goals

· Maintains a flexible schedule as necessary to facilitate and attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders to track and update the progress of program implementation

· Provides written documentation on the status, progress, and effectiveness of program operations including budget productivity and personnel costs

· Analyzes applicable regulations, policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for program/project improvements or to senior staff

· Coordinates with City departments, sister agencies, not-for-profit organizations and private companies to solicit participation in CPD’s programs and initiatives

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning or a related field, supplemented by three years of progressively responsible experience in program administration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

EQUIVALENCIES:

Seven (7) years of program administration work experience. OR

An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning or a directly related field, PLUS at least five (5) years of program administration work experience. OR

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning or a directly related field, PLUS at least three (3) years of program administration work experience. OR

A Master’s Degree or Doctorate from an accredited college or university in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning or a directly related field, PLUS at least two (2) years of program administration work experience.

Disclaimer – “Accredited” means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

· ? Previous experience working in law enforcement or in a court/legal environment.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

· Project Management Professional Certification

· Fluent in any language other than English

NOTE: Candidates must pass a background investigation, drug screen and other pre-employment procedures as determined by the Chicago Police Department.
