JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Department of Fleet and Facility Management

Number of Positions: 2

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $73,800 ( increasing to $77,400.00 after 6 months and thereafter annual step increases in accordance with salary schedule GY-07 subject to a performance evaluation.)

The Department of Fleet and Facility Management (2FM) Bureau of Environmental, Health and Safety Management is seeking Environmental Health and Safety Coordinators to, under general supervision, coordinate and monitor environmental health and safety programs in the department, and perform related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Develops, modifies and implements environmental, health and safety (EHS) policies, procedures, programs, and permits in accordance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, USEPA, IEPA, IDOL, CDPH)

· Manages EHS projects including preparing scopes of work, schedules and budgets and coordinating and overseeing the work of consultants, vendors and internal work teams engaged in project implementation.

· Evaluates work environments, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety standards and government regulations

· Assesses EHS training and personal protective equipment needs according to departmental operations and conducts and/or facilitates training

· Performs incident investigations to determine their cause and recommends corrective actions to prevent future occurrences

· Administers medical monitoring programs to maintain and track results of employee testing

· Prepares narrative and statistical reports on the status of EHS activities and compliance efforts

Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: 2 North LaSalle

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications:

+ Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety Management, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of work experience developing, analyzing and monitoring environmental health and safety programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience provided that the minimum education requirement is met.

+ A valid State of Illinois Driver’s license is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to climb stairs and ladders

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· General office environment

· Exposure to loud noise, fumes or dust, oily or wet environments during field work

· Exposure to hazardous conditions during field work

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include two skills assessments as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
