Summary About the Position: Serves as the Section Chief for the Aquatic Control Section (ACS) and the Facility Manager for the District’s Electric Fish Dispersal Barriers, providing continuous protection to deter the migration of non-native aquatic nuisance species between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi and Illinois River Basins. Supervises technical and administrative staff assigned to the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the operating project. Responsibilities Develop, coordinate, and manage facilities operation and maintenance work programs. Manage the annual allocation of funds for operation and maintenance of the Dispersal Barriers. Initiate meetings and contacts with other Federal agencies. Serve as the operation maintenance technical subject matter expert. Direct and evaluate works closely with facility staff to establish the FEM database. Supervise and oversee the work of operating project Engineering Technicians and outside and contracted technicians. Revise work schedules to meet changes in workload. Explain work requirements, methods, policies, and procedures. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: operations and/or maintenance of navigation facilities and structures; experience at or supporting one or more navigation projects; knowledge of coastal navigation operating components such as breakwaters, seawalls, docks, piers, and navigation channels; experience with confined disposal facilities; experience with heavy equipment and/or floating plant operations; and experience in a lead or supervisory position. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications Facilities Management Managing Human Resources Planning and execution Safety and Health Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
