About the Role: The Associate General Counsel – Litigation provides legal leadership for the Company’s litigation matters (auto, general liability and workers compensation) as well as identifying and coordinating internally to roll out targeted trainings and safety initiatives in order to reduce future lawsuits.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Support Safety and Operational teams to ensure Transdev maintains best in class safety and regulatory policies, programs, and practices.

+ Responsible for responding to serious incident alerts and handling of all major safety incidents; as well as internal reporting and coordination with outside counsel related to incident response.

+ Primary responsibility for Company’s Auto and General Liability claims litigation portfolio including outside counsel management; post-incident remediation measures and related considerations; internal reporting on high exposure/key matters; and development of strategies to reduce/mitigate claims.

+ Provide strategic oversight of all litigation including attending depositions, trials, mediations, and settlement conferences, as well as provide oversight and input in case discovery (written and oral) process.

+ Support the Company’s Risk Management team in the management of a third-party administrator’s (TPA) performance; review TPA reports and provide key takeaways to senior management; attend and participate in periodic claim review roundtables.

+ Responsible to develop and implement processes and procedures with a TPA as well as internally to settle claims early and to foster settlements across the board.

+ Work in close partnership with the General Counsel, CFO and other members of the finance and legal departments to manage coverage program, assess proper case reserves, settle cases, provide detailed case presentations and analysis for strategic discussions with the GC, CFO and CEO as well as understanding and contributing to actuarial reporting.

+ Analyze safety and claims data to identify trends as well as opportunities for improvement within and throughout the organization.

+ Manage the Company’s subpoena response process, and all records requests processes, and drive best practices and efficiencies regarding same.

+ Other duties as assigned

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and JD from accredited law school with admission to one or more state bar (Illinois preferred).

Experience Required:

Minimum of 10 years of legal experience including general casualty litigation experience. Law firm experience highly preferred. In-house experience managing a national liability claims program preferred. Workers’ compensation experience a plus. Must understand how to work in-house, general understanding of commercial matters, commercial finance and how to develop and foster teamwork, collaboration, respect, and peer-to-peer work in a large and complex company.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

+ Demonstrated independent management of significant claims litigation portfolio including direct management of outside counsel using a TPA.

+ Experience managing a national, commercial liability claims program preferred.

+ Prior experience managing internal and external counsel.

+ Transportation and related safety and regulatory experience preferred.

+ Inhouse experience required, including interaction with the C-suite.

+ Superior analytical skills and judgment required.

+ Can responsively prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, dynamic and time sensitive environment.

+ Self-directed individual with ability to work independently yet also work collaboratively within a highly matrixed internal client base.

+ Demonstrated ability to synthesize complicated legal and business issues into practical and effective guidance.

+ High degree of integrity and intellectual curiosity.

+ High degree of attention and commitment to collaboration, respectful, and team-focused results in all communications.

+ Attention to detail and high level of responsiveness required.

+ Adherence to all policies, including the Company’s Code of Conduct.

Travel requirement outside of immediate area (as a percent): 20%
