Job Description

Description We are offering a contract-to-permanent employment opportunity for a meticulous and organized Staff Accountant in the Wholesale Distribution industry, based in Skokie, Illinois. The chosen candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting function, preparing account reconciliations, and tracking all movements in freight accounts.

Responsibilities

- Download and consolidate freight data files for reconciliation.

- Ensure accurate recording of invoices and orders for either incoming or outgoing shipments.

- Identify and rectify invoicing errors and discrepancies.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gain an understanding of operations and freight services by client.

- Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations, verifying audit substantiation and ensuring reconciling items clear promptly.

- Ensure freight pay and billing processes adhere to Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance guidelines.

- Assist with month-end cutoff and accounting for accruals.

- Provide audit documentation within deadlines for Sarbanes-Oxley Testing & other audit requests.

- Generate ad hoc reports as necessary.

- Utilize Microsoft Excel for tasks such as pivot table creation, VLOOKUP, and If/then formulas. Requirements – Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

- Have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role.

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, vlookups, and other functions.

- Solid understanding of general accounting principles and financial statements.

- Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

- Knowledge of wholesale distribution industry is a plus.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

- CPA certification or progress toward obtaining it is desirable.

- Familiarity with accounting software and systems.
