Caterpillar Inc. seeks Electronic Components Sr. Engineer – Autonomy at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, Illinois 61523.

Job Description:

Responsible for developing, improving, and troubleshooting components for new perception component technologies supporting machine autonomy. Perform analysis, simulation, machine integration, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and resolving issues related to New Product Introduction (NPI) as well as current generation camera and radar products. Act as a technical lead in the cross-functional development teams including supplier, purchasing, hardware, software, systems, support engineer to gather, document, demonstrate requirements and product durability. Support the Autonomy Components group within Electronic Components division. Provide technical leadership on a cross-functional team designing and developing perception, positioning and/or computing electronic hardware components. Manage requirements, design, validation, and quality aspects of the component technology. Work closely with Autonomy System/Subsystem team members to understand the application requirements and performance needs. Work in a cross-functional team environment and have responsibility for all technical deliverables of the NPI product development cycle. Design, development, product quality and validation. Deliver the product that meets the Hardware Requirements Specification, test plans and other specs. Collaborate with external suppliers in the development of products and communicate technical status and results to suppliers, team members, stakeholders, and other business units. Execute autonomy components. Design Review process for assigned projects. Work with Validation Lead on test plans, execution, results documentation. Monitor component failure modes across applications and drive timely resolution. Lastly, access development issues and requirements change requests. Telecommuting: 2 days/week. Travel: less than 10% domestic & international to Caterpillar facilities.

Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus Five (5) years of experience in developing embedded electronic hardware components or related field. Alternatively, the employer will accept a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus Three (3) years of experience in developing embedded electronic hardware components or related field. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Supporting component engine or machine integration; (2) Schematic/layout development and use of CAN and J1939 communication protocols; (3) Application simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or dSPACE; (4) Coordinating the validation and verification activities for Engine Control Modules (ECMs) and Electronic Control Units (ECUs); (5) EMC test plans and environmental testing; and (6) Lab equipment (function generators, and oscilloscopes) and with schematic and printed circuit board design and simulation.
