Caterpillar Inc. seeks Controls Sys Sr. Engineer at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd, Chillicothe, Illinois 61523.

Job Duties:

Develop and integrate Hystat sub-systems on various Caterpillar machine products. Work with process partners from ICS and the Machine Business Divisions to establish sub-system control requirements and to select electrical/electronic and hydraulic components that meet performance, reliability, functional safety, and cost objectives. Support and conduct Hystat Controls FMEA. Design and develop software (MATLAB/Simulink and CCode). Design, construct, and maintain a Hystat sub-system bench/HIL bench. Conduct software evaluation using verification tools such as HIL/SIL/MIL and document performance results. Provide tuning support, testing and guidance to the machine proving grounds or other test engineers. Troubleshoot and analyze performance data and summarize conclusions. Resolve NPI and CPI issues. Document conformance to ISO standards, functional safety and conduct NPI GW reviews. Telecommuting: 2 days/week. 10% domestic & occasional international travel.

Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Hydraulics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field and 5 years of experience troubleshooting electrical/electronic hardware and software, and/or machine level problems or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Hydraulics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field and 3 years of experience troubleshooting electrical/electronic hardware and software, and/or machine level problems or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Hydraulic Systems and controls; (2) Two years experience developing electronic control systems and/or embedded software for automotive, on-highway truck, or off – highway applications; (3) Application of data links such as CAN/J1939 and Ethernet for control and monitoring purposes; (4) Software development tools such as: MathWorks (MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Embedded Coder, Simulink Test), git, CANalyzer, Lauterbach Debugger, CANape; (5) Programming languages such as: Embedded C and Python scripting; (6) Generating, tracking, and communicating product development deliverables to completion; (7) Navigating Electrical and Hydraulic schematics; (8) Creating software validation plans and defining validation acceptance criteria; and (9) Embedded software and/or hardware development, such as: FIRST Robotics or Baja SAE.
