The IP Strategy Team Leader manages a team of ~10 direct reports and ~3 – 4 dotted line reports to pair IP analytics data and competitive intelligence in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations regarding strategic IP development and execution for technology and product areas across GE Aerospace.

Roles and Responsibilities

+ Influence on and meaningful decision-making authority regarding IP strategy development across GE Aerospace. Guides and impacts the team’s ability to achieve service, quality and timeliness of objectives. Work is subject to functional policies, priorities, standard work, and general guidance from functional leadership. Regularly advises management in IP strategy development and progress. Has a supportive role in decision making about important IP related subjects. High levels of evaluative judgment are required to achieve outcomes required, with occasional and general support from higher level management. Defines and executes business transactions, policy/ strategy/ standard work within the IP Strategy function and/or in the business.

+ Requires specialized knowledge in IP function and/or breadth of expertise in IP discipline. Expected to influence the development of IP strategies across GE Aerospace including control of resources.

+ Interprets simple internal and external business challenges through relevant experience drawing on business expertise to business leaders to assist them when recommending best practices to improving IP outcomes or while making other business decisions. Strong knowledge of aerospace industry and understanding of IP Strategy’s value in light of industry understanding. Starting to develop own external network of legal and regulatory contacts.

+ Uses high level of expertise, analytical skills, and judgment to make decisions, issue-spot, analyze and solve complex problems that impact the IP Strategy team or the business. Able to assess quality of information and ask pertinent questions to find root causes. Balances rigor and pragmatism for effective decision-making and problem-solving. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct actionable advice. Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple internal and some external resources outside of own function. Demonstrated ability to manage a high level of judgement/complex environment.

+ Manage a team of ~10 direct reports and 3 – 4 dotted line reports. Has ability to attract and retain talent or to help recruit others to the organization. Lead functional teams and projects with broad responsibility and complexity in IP domain directly or indirectly. Ability to communicate effectively to Senior Leadership with minimal assistance from higher level leaders.Owns elements of FLIGHT DECK engagement that pertain to their area of responsibility (i.e. sub-section KPIs/metrics, standard work, action plans, problem solving, etc.)

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 8 years of professional experience OR Associates degree with minimum of 10 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 12 years of professional experience.

+ Minimum 6 years of professional experience in IP field.
