We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Group Manager-Minority Affairs Section (Hybrid) on our Marketing & Membership Experience team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office. As the Group Manager of the Minority Affairs Section (MAS) is responsible for the long-term success of the Section and contributing to the AMA’s work around minority physician issues, and in that capacity work with a Section Director to: (1) manage planning and other Section governance functions, (2) plan and execute Section events and initiatives, and (3) serve as a center of expertise and point of contact for internal and external inquiries related to MAS and minority physician issues. RESPONSIBILITIES: Section Initiatives

+ Plan and execute MAS Governing Council meetings, Annual/Interim meetings, and other Section events and initiatives.

+ Manage the MAS policy-making process – from concept to policy.

+ Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact within and outside the AMA for inquiries related to MAS and minority physician issues.

+ Manage two-way communication between the AMA and Section members, and between Section leaders and their constituents.

+ Identify and implement opportunities for MAS to contribute to the AMA value proposition and grow AMA membership.

Relationship Management and Development

+ In collaboration with Director, facilitate development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with department and AMA goals.

+ Build, manage, and sustains professional relationships with elected/appointed Section leaders. Guide elected/appointed leaders through relevant AMA policies, processes, and procedures.

+ In collaboration with Director, interact with the AMA Board of Trustees, AMA business units, and relevant external organizations.

+ Represent the needs of the MAS to management, elevating concerns as appropriate.

+ Contribute to ad hoc project teams as assigned.

May include other responsibilities as assigned REQUIREMENTS:

+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required.

+ Minimum 5 years of experience in leading, influencing, and interacting with external stakeholders required; experience with managing physicians or other professionals preferred.

+ Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write a diverse range of material, develop well thought-out policy positions, and edit material prepared by others, required

+ Excellent organization, prioritization, and management skills to handle a variety of multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced, high volume team environment, required.

+ Polished interpersonal, decision-making, and political skills to interface and communicate with all levels of leadership, staff, and management, and build sustainable, trusting relationships with members.

+ Ability to react quickly, calmly and with sound judgment.

+ Must meet deadlines with minimal supervision and team spirit in a changing, fast-paced environment.

+ Demonstrated excellent multi-tasking skills, with high-quality standards and strong attention to detail and excellent troubleshooting skills.

+ Strong planning and organizing skills required.

+ Travel and extended hours, including nights and weekends, as business demands dictate, required.
