Role Summary

The Rivian Automation Controls Integration team aims to be at the forefront of innovation and technology in automation controls. Our mission is to support Rivian's effort to deliver world-class electric vehicles by delivering automated manufacturing facilities with minimal development and commissioning time, that operate continuously with no unplanned downtime. We are looking for talented, forward-thinking controls engineers to join us in developing and deploying the most advanced manufacturing equipment in the world. At Rivian, we are expanding our manufacturing capabilities at a rate that enables and requires us to explore and implement some of the most exciting advancements in technology. As a result, you will have a unique opportunity to grow as an engineer, gaining skills that would not be available anywhere else. This position is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to a Sr Manager of Automation Controls Engineering.
Responsibilities

You will manage equipment vendors, integrators, and machine builders to develop equipment that will be deployed to our production facilities.
You will collaborate with our Automation Controls Development team in the development and continuous improvement of our controls standard and ensure that equipment landing within our facilities adheres to our Rivian developed standards for electrical design, software development, robot implementation, and vision.
During equipment ramp and commissioning you will drive detail-oriented equipment buyoffs and see to it that timelines and budgets are met as expected.
Qualifications

BS/MS Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent - Majors in: Controls and Computer Control Systems, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.)
5+ Years of relevant experience in the field of automation controls.
Experience supporting automation projects from concept design through production release.
Familiarity with common controls hardware used in advanced, high-volume manufacturing.
Hands-on experience building, integrating, and troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
Experience understanding and implementing modular, reusable code for programming Rockwell, Beckhoff, Siemens, or similar PLCs.
Experience with front end screen design, including use of reusable templates, for equipment HMIs using Ignition, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Wonderware, TwinCAT HMI, or similar.
Experience developing and interpreting electrical schematics using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar.
Experience programming and comissioning industrial robotics with knowledge in ABB Robots being considered a preferred asset.
Knowledge of industrial safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
Knowledge of industrial electrical standards (NFPA79, NEC, UL508A).
Proficinecy in Process controls in a Paint Shop environment an asset.
