Job Summary:
The Institutional Animal Care and use Committee (IACUC) PAM Compliance Analyst is primarily responsible for ensuring that the various research compliance activities and programs within IACUC adhere to Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as institutional policy.The PAM Compliance Analyst supports the IACUC Office through post-approval and for-cause auditing of complex research activities involving animal subjects at the Evanston and Chicago campuses.This position supports the IACUC Office in ensuring that CCM facilities and laboratory research programs are in compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations, and also comply with AAALAC, International recommendations.
The PAM Compliance Analyst will initiate and apply new procedures as necessary to ensure that the IACUC and the NU Research Community operate at optimum effectiveness and efficiency.This role also promotes the high ethical standards NU demands in all research protocol and data collection, in order to protect the safety, and welfare of animal research subjects.
The PAM Compliance Analyst will support the OR mission and values of understanding empathy, modeling accountability, ensuring fairness, embracing community, and valuing creativity.
Please note:
There are occasions when this position will have to travel between buildings and campuses.
Supervisor provides overall objectives & in consultation with EE develops deadlines.Work is reviewed for fulfillment of objectives & overall compliance with policy & procedures.EE completes majority of activities without direction; consulting with supervisor only in regard to new or unusual circumstances.
EE uses judgment & an extensive amount of experience to adapt an advanced knowledge of skills, methods, practices, policies & procedures & a moderate degree of innovation, analysis, & reasoning to plan & prioritize work that is primarily project oriented & involves some extremely difficult problems &/or decisions.EE interprets and may contribute to changing and/or developing policy.
Specific Responsibilities:
Compliance
Conducts selected PAM visits and facilitates observation of procedures that are listed on animal use protocols.
Monitors animal use protocols for compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations.
Creates, updates, and maintains certain PAM documentation and records, using PAM software.
Advises on regulatory matters with individual faculty and staff regarding research proposals involving animal subjects.
Participates in compliance visits.Communicates with investigators, compliance committees, and other appropriate parties, through written reports relative to specific non-compliance issues.
Provides timely reports of: Non-compliance investigations of PIs, and assessments of internal systems/process audits to assure compliance with SOPs and applicable regulations and guidelines.
Schedules, conducts routine and IACUC-directed site visits of all animal areas.
Supports the IACUC in ensuring compliance programs meet regulatory requirements, and are in compliance with often changing and complex Federal, State, and local regulations regarding the activities of the department.
Monitors changes in regulations, and advises the Director as to how these changes may affect operations.
Assists the Director in the development and maintenance of compliance programs, including, but not limited to educational materials, associated forms/policies, and internal procedures.
Serves as subject matter expert in Federal, State and local regulations as applied to animal research subjects.
Contributes to the development of quality assurance initiatives.
Assists in the development and revision of policies for the compliance component of the IACUC Office.
Training and Analysis
Conducts, documents and communicates grant/protocol congruencies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Provides training and advice to faculty and staff on all regulations.
Contributes to the analysis and creation of reports that track compliance issues related to Federal requirements.
Other
Prepare minutes for IACUC monthly meetings.
Completes special projects as needed.
Miscellaneous
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in relevant academic field;
3+ years of relevant experience including a demonstrated knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations governing the use of animal subjects in research;
