Lifelong Access is seeking a Supported Living Specialist to schedule and train Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) within the organization’s adult services programs to ensure quality care for individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental health needs. Reporting to the Director of Adult Services, this role also involves maintaining regulatory compliance while also promoting a positive and supportive environment. 

Pay:                       $22-$24 Hourly; Based on experience
Job Type:             Full-time

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Administer training programs designed for new and existing DSPs to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs.  
  2. Provide hands-on training and mentorship to DSPs, offering guidance and support to ensure they are confident and competent in their roles.  
  3. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, making recommendations for modifications as needed to improve outcomes and meet the needs of the supported living program.  
  4. Maintain accurate records of all training activities, including attendance and certifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Coordinate closely with Human Resources to track training activities. 
  5. Conduct regular training sessions ongoing education opportunities to keep DSPs updated on best practices, policies, and regulatory requirements.  
  6. Create and manage schedules for DSPs to ensure adequate staffing levels for the Adult CILA Homes and Community Day Services Program.  
  7. Coordinate shift assignments and rotations, with consideration of staff availability, skill sets, and the specific needs of individuals receiving services.  
  8. Monitor and adjust schedules as needed to accommodate changes in staffing, such as vacations and other leaves of absence, or emergencies, ensuring continuous and consistent care.  
  9. Communicate schedule changes and updates promptly to DSPs and other relevant staff members to maintain transparency and operational efficiency.  
  10. Utilize scheduling software and tools to maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.  
  11. Ability to provide CPR/first aid if necessary.   
  12. Model and support Lifelong Access Core Values in all areas and situations across the organization.   

 

Qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in social services, education, or a related field is preferred.  
  • Minimum of one years of experience working as a DSP or in a related role within the developmental disabilities or mental health field. Strong knowledge of best practices in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs desired.  
  • Previous experience in a training, mentoring, and/or supervisory role is highly desirable.  Trainer certification or credentials in relevant areas a plus (such as nonviolent crisis intervention, person-centered planning)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.  
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on industry standards and regulations.   
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey information and provide constructive feedback.  
  • Critical thinker, detailed, problem solver with conflict resolution skills and high ethical standards 
  • Certified in first aid, CPR, and CPI, or able to complete certifications. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate training schedules.  
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and reliable transportation with ability to travel to various local sites may be required, with safe driving record.  
  • Current proof of automobile insurance. 

 

Working Conditions    

Primarily based in an office setting with frequent visits to support living facilities, CILA homes, and Community Day Services locations. Standard work hours are typically during the day; however, flexibility is required to accommodate training sessions, meetings or emergencies that may occur in the evenings or weekends. On-call duties may be necessary to address urgent issues or staff needs.

Frequently required to talk, hear, and possess clear close and distance vision.  Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and move objects up to 25 pounds. Involves using computer equipment for extended periods. use hands, fingers to reach or feel.  May include physical activities such as assisting individuals with mobility, participating in training demonstrations, or engaging in recreational activities with individuals. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
