Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Position Summary: Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating pediatric and behavioral health education programs and quality issues for nursing and staff development. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care through use of clinical standards of practice and evaluation of expected outcomes. Qualifications: EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) upon hire ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire, and Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30days, and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months, and 3 years or more of behavioral health nursing experience or clinical nursing education experience. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser. Multicultural sensitivity. Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions. Essential Functions: Provide state of the art knowledge and expertise in the use of the nursing process for the management, evaluation, and continued improvement of care delivered to achieve optimal outcomes.

+ Assists nurses and staff in acquiring clinical knowledge and skills by using innovative approaches to guide nursing practice that advances the practice of professional nursing and other clinical staff.

+ Develops regular in-services, programs, and/or courses to the nursing staff and ancillary personnel.

+ Facilitates and participates in the educational onboarding program for newly hired employees. Participates in retention activities and routine check ins with new hires.

+ Facilitates new program development and/or technology updates.

+ Maintains up to date resource materials; journals, texts, articles, etc. for use by nursing staff

+ Writes new policy/procedures reflecting current nursing trends and practices.

+ Evaluates and revises current policies as assigned.

+ Provides information and resources in response to staff requests.

+ Communicates effectively, both written and oral

+ Serves as a resource for public speaking related to community outreach.

+ Promotes nurse engagement in professional nursing organizations and national certification

Provides support/direction to nursing staff in the holistic care of patients with complex physiological and psychosocial problems, assuming responsibility for the use of the nursing process in the development and implementation of the plan of care from admission to discharge

+ Evaluates processes related to electronic medical record documentation.

+ Is readily available on the unit to physicians, staff, patients, and family members

+ Networks with peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to improve outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

+ Participates indirectly and directly in delivering patient care when needed.

+ Assists in investigating and solving patient/family/staff problems.

+ Assists the Nurse Manager in the performance evaluation of staff in a variety of roles.

+ Maintains educational database of staff that meet facility and regulatory guidelines.

+ Identifies trends to facilitate appropriate follow-up or changes in unit processes.

+ Coordinates initial and ongoing unit staff educational requirements and competencies.

Utilizes clinical practice guidelines and research to guide and promote evidence-based nursing practice.

+ Maintains current knowledge of discipline-specific licensure/practice and other regulatory guidelines and rules.

+ Reviews current literature and initiates changes in clinical practice.

+ Generates and/or implements evidence-based protocols.

+ Monitors patient care and outcomes, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate quality issues.

+ Demonstrates expertise and a thorough knowledge of standards of practice and care through clinical judgment and decision-making

+ Employs a variety of creative and realistic solutions to ensure cost effectiveness and quality of care

+ Assists the Nurse Manager and unit-based council in quality improvement activities.

+ Recommends investigation and purchase of new equipment based on assessed needs.

Facilitates effective unit integration activities with other disciplines and departments utilizing a teamwork philosophy.

+ Facilitates education and/or support groups for patients, families, and staff.

+ Facilitates educational/support programs based on assessed needs.

+ Serves as a super-user/trainer for new programs, equipment, or processes as needed.

+ Maintains cooperative relationships and open communication with a wide variety of disciplines and departments.

+ Utilizes resources from various departments/disciplines in staff education programs

+ Works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary personnel to improve skill levels, standards of care and quality outcomes to meet individual patient/family needs.

+ Guides nursing and ancillary staff in providing positive interpersonal relations and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
