Job Summary:

This role primarily serves as a welding engineer for welding development, fabrication, and tooling support in research and business units projects. The role develops and evaluates welding processes that meet or improve weld safety, quality, velocity, and cost. Business unit support includes development of weld quality plans, troubleshooting and root cause analysis, weld process or parameter development, or other joining related needs. The role contributes to maintaining joining related specifications, standards, and manufacturing practices.

-Lead or contribute to welding, fabrication, and tooling development projects

-Collaborate on multi-disciplinary technical assistance teams to provide superior welding process solutions.

-Collaborate with the Caterpillar welding community to develop and implement welding processes

-Mentor less experience welding engineers

-Keep up to date on new technologies in the areas of joining

-Communicate welding process improvements to the Caterpillar welding community

Education Requirement:

-A Bachelor degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology

-Experience in welding failure analysis

Technical Excellence:

-Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges

-Experience in welding engineering or fabrications

-Experience in creating welding procedures and processes, PQRs and WPSs.

-Experience reading prints and GD&T

-Experience with welding robot programming

-Experience with welding process development and procedure qualification

-Applies current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues in one’s general area of technical competence.

-Helps others solve technical or procedural problems or issues.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies:

-Understanding of welding related standards

-Ability to read and interpret specifications, standards and practices

-Obtains documentation and information on standards and their usage.

Product Testing:

-American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector

-Experience with non-destructive weld inspection methods

-Develops testing procedures; participates in selecting testing environment and tools.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems:

-Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.

-Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.

-Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities to discover application problems.

-Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.

-Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.

Additional Information

The primary location for this position is Mossville, IL. Alternative locations are Decatur, IL, Athens, GA, Sanford, NC or S. Milwaukee, WI

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require up to 25% travel.
