GENERAL FUNCTION: Leads in the identification and assessment of risks (Regulation Z, Responsible Banking, Fair Lending, etc.) and the execution of procedures to evaluate the Bancorp’s compliance with laws, regulations and industry standards. Develops and executes strategies for closing gaps in performance. Works mostly self-directed, with minimal supervisory oversight. Also works within department and cross-department teams. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Banks risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Providing early identification of risk exposure and assisting with formulating recommendations to mitigate the risk;

+ Assisting in the review and evaluation of the results of testing and monitoring activities performed by both the LOB (including Business Controls) and others from the second line of defense (such as RCOM or CTP);

+ Assisting the CBPC Manager and/or Director in supporting various task forces or discussion groups to address compliance-related issues and developing enhancement or remediation strategies;

+ Assisting in the review of complaints that require additional product/service-related subject matter expertise, to further support complaint management processes;

+ Partnering with the LOB on corrective action, including training and issue management, as needed;

+ Implementing/facilitating enhancements to the Program;

+ Researching, analyzing, and drawing conclusions related to all assigned applicable rules and regulatory requirements;

+ Contribute to annual completion of the Compliance Risk Assessment;

+ Serve as a Compliance subject matter expert for LOB procedure reviews and customer-facing document reviews;

+ Facilitating compliance-related communication across Fifth Third;

+ Serving as a compliance resource to the LOB;

+ Participating in BCRA and VRM evaluations;

+ Reviewing escalated compliance-related complaints, providing feedback on the proposed response prior to communication with the complainant; and

+ Ensuring inclusion of relevant CRM division members (e.g., CTP and the Ethics Office), Legal, and other Risk Management partners (e.g., Operational Risk, Financial Crimes, etc.) who are aligned with the same LOB during major initiatives and meetings that have cross-departmental implications.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

+ 5+ years’ experience as Compliance Officer or equivalent work experience.

+ Computer/Technical: Demonstrates working or functional proficiency sufficient to apply the use of MS Office Products (Excel, Power Point, MS Word) without assistance and minimal supervision

+ Ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats confidently and effectively.

+ Ability to understand and conceptualize basic statistical analysis and theories. Experience in manipulating (validating, correcting, reformatting, and transforming) data into more than one format, (e.g., spreadsheets, flat files, databases.).

+ Critical thinking abilities for proactively identifying issues and actions required. Gather and integrate information from a variety of sources to make sound decisions. Collects and analyzes data to assess accuracy, validity, and integrity. Analyze information and effectively integrates and interprets results. Make timely decisions and take action to address an issue.

+ Regulatory knowledge of industry standards, federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Office of Comptroller of Currency and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) examination standards and regulatory supervision for Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP).

+ Ability to identify, research and provide solutions to complex situations with potential regulatory impact.

+ Demonstrate sound judgment and apply logical and critical thought processes when developing and recommending solutions.

+ Ability to understand issues or concerns, listen to alternative viewpoints, ask follow-up questions, and efficiently communicate to team members and internal partners. Garners buy in from partners on issues or concerns.

+ Ability to efficiently manage multiple competing priorities at once. Able to deliver work on time with high quality consistently.

+ Ability to proactively solve problems and make sound decisions. Able to remove barriers to solve problems with minimal assistance. Seeks assistance when uncertain and learns from mistakes.

+ Ability to embrace change to drive a continuous improvement culture by demonstrating commitment to organizational change efforts and personally proposing new approaches and methods to accomplishing work.
