Position Summary
This position is responsible for identifying appropriate experiments, instructional activities, or technological equipment for undergraduate and graduate Architecture, Design and the Arts instructional laboratories and classrooms, including laboratory set-up, support, and maintenance. Assist in the development of lab policies and procedures. Work in collaboration and consultation with faculty and staff to carry out the following job description.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Instructional Laboratory Specialist serves as the technology coordinator for the School of Theatre and Music. The technology coordinator position manages discipline specific technology needs for both theatre and music departments as well as classroom AV and basic IT needs. The technology coordinator collaborates with faculty and staff to advance the School's mission to develop practical knowledge, cultural sensitivity, intellectual resourcefulness, and imagination in emerging artists and scholars. They also interface with various trades and campus IT units to manage technology upgrades for the School of Theatre and Music. The technology coordinator may assist faculty in developing technology aspects of courses or curricula; will work with faculty and students in courses to introduce or teach specialized technology-related skills; and may or may not teach a course in the Department of Music or the Department of Theatre. May serve on committees as assigned.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in music, theatre technology, or a related field, a minimum of two years' experience in a performing arts laboratory setting; as well as expertise in two or more of the following areas: audio system design; audio system technology for music and theatre; audio visual technology for classrooms; and entry level information technology. In addition, the candidate must have working knowledge of Digital Audio Workstation programs such as ProTools, Reaper, LogicPro, or QLab as well as an understanding of license management software and license servers for common music and theatre technology software. An ability to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in educational and/or professional settings.

Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in a related field; experience with video and projection technology for theatre; an ability to support rehearsal and performance venue operations; exceptional organization and communication skills; experience managing budgets and maintaining technical inventory; demonstrated ability to mentor students, staff, and faculty; experience as an administrator; and an active artistic/professional practice in music, theatre, or teaching in performance or technology.
